CIE CLEVER LITTLE BOXES
A range of problem-solving installation accessories to assist the installer of professional audio systems, these designs have evolved from practical experience in the field. They are housed in painted steel enclosures (except PAM-10), to withstand rugged treatment and provide shielding, connections are made by screw terminals accessed through “knock-out” conduit holes, and fixing kits, thoughtfully, are packed with each device, to avoid time-wasting scrabbling in the tool-box.
ZSU-5 Zone Switching Unit
Primarily intended for the switching of 100V line loudspeaker feeds, this may be used for many other tasks, including special intercom or cue-feed systems. There are five individual balanced inputs to switching relays, fed out to five zone outputs, perhaps supplying background music or show-relay, until a contact-closure is applied to any of the five associated control pairs. Each of these causes the relay concerned to change over to a sixth input, bussed to all five relays, perhaps carrying paging or talkback. “All-Call” control input switches all five relays simultaneously. Two microphones or other devices, such as pre-amplifiers, may be looped-in and out of the unit, to supply them with phantom power at either 10V or 24V, for use where such power is unavailable from the amplifiers in the system. A further relay may be jumpered to mute the first of these, and has a slow release, to avoid unwanted artifacts, and spare contacts. Up to 100mA at 24V DC is available from the inbuilt PSU for driving other equipment such as relays and indicator lights. Mains operation (230V), or 24V DC. Dimensions: 245(l) × 185(w) × 52(h)mm. MPS-1 Music/Paging Selector
This connects two zones to one amplifier output. One zone is fed continuously (say background music), the second is activated only when a closing-contact is activated (to route a paging call to the second zone as well, for example). TPG-5 Tone Generator
Produces the following tones, “whoop”, twin tone (“dee-dah”), Greenwich Mean Time style pips (random timing), continuous tone plus four chime options. Each tone is activated by individual contact closures. Unbalanced line level output. Mains (230V) or 24V DC powered. Dimensions 180(l) x 120(w) x 50(h)mm. Weight 1.2kg.
VCA-1 Voltage Controlled Attenuator
This is a line-level, stereo device giving wired remote control of a stereo signal, or may be used to control two separate zones, providing separate volume controls for each. Two (single-gang) remote-control plates are included, which may be used with standard BS1363 single-gang back-boxes or the supplied surface-mounting boxes. These connect to the main unit using standard twin cable (up to100m). All connections are by screw terminal. Performance: Whilst appropriate for use in entertainment venues, this product is not intended for use in critical applications. PAM-10 Telephone Interface
