PSC MULTI-PURPOSE MICROPHONE AND HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER

The Promix 1 is a flexible audio tool for field production, combining a low-noise microphone pre-amplifier and monitor amplifier in a battery-powered package. It can be used by boom operators, especially when feeding video cameras, commentators and announcers, or simply as a pre-amplifier and phantom power supply or stand-alone limiter.

DV ProMix 1

The rear panel has an electronically balanced XLR microphone input with associated switch to select phantom powering on/off (48V and 12V AB-T powering). The electronically balanced return monitor input is through a second XLR-F connector. The transformer balanced output uses a male XLR, and has a level switch offering 0dBV / -10dBV / -40dBV. A 6.35mm jack provides the headphone output, the external power input is a 2.5mm coaxial connector, and a boom remote-control input uses a miniature 5-pin XLR. On one side there is a dual-drawer battery compartment to take two PP3 size batteries.

The front panel has retractable rotary gain controls to set the monitor return gain, headphone level, and microphone pre-amplifier gain. The latter has an associated low-cut filter switch, 80Hz / flat / 150Hz and a limiter in/out switch. The headphone feed can be switched between the direct microphone amplifier output, the incoming monitor return feed, or split feed, with one of the two signals in each ear. A larger rotary control provides an output fader for the microphone signal, and an LED indicates when the remote control is being used. An array of six LEDs provide a peak reading output meter which is bright enough to be seen in sunlight.

Microphone input: -65dBV to -5dBV. Frequency response: 20-20000Hz, +/- 0.5db. Filters: -3dB at 80Hz, 150Hz, 6dB per octave. Distortion: 0.08% THD at 1kHz, 0dBV. Noise: -128 EIN, 150 ohms, A-weighted. External power: 7 to 15V DC. Run time: 4 to 6 hours from two alkaline batteries. Dimensions: 116 x 142 x 48 (w x d x h) mm. Weight: 0.45kg.

Included accessories: Belt clip, manual.
Optional accessories: Plug-top power supply 23-973 offers 12V DC, 270mA.
