CANFORD SDV-L-RR CABLE Black

SDV-L-RR - HDTV, SERIAL DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE VIDEO CABLE (1.0/4.8) Low loss, polyethylene jacketed, reinforced - Rodent resistant

Canford's Technical Support team regularly receive requests for advice about cables that can be installed in situations more physically demanding than the average studio complex, and this special variant of our highest performance HDTV and digital/analogue video coax cable has been developed to suit a number of these more unusual installation applications.

For some years, Canford has manufactured a 'sheep resistant' video cable, SDV-L-SR, developed for specialist applications such as RSPB nest security monitoring and BBC's Springwatch, where video cables are laid in the autumn up to 'nest-cams', and other remote locations. However, even this, although resistant to most animal teeth, is vulnerable to damage from rats and other rodents.

The additional protection of the cable created by the extra layers makes the cable suitable for some direct burial applications. Polyethylene has a considerably greater resistance to water, and whilst not suitable for permanent immersion, provides a high level of protection.

SDV-L-RR is, in performance terms, identical to standard SDV-L. The change in jacket material, and the additional protective elements make no difference to the electrical properties. Canford Group Y connectors are suitable.

This special 'rodent resistant' version of the cable is based on SDV-L-SR, but then has a glass fibre tape layer and an outer polyethylene jacket. This isn't fully 'rodent-proof' (steel wire armour or metal tube is needed for that - a very expensive technique) but offers a high level of protection as rats don't like the glass splinters that occur when they chew. The glass fibre tape and outer sheath are stripped back before termination with normal Group Y BNC connectors and tooling.
