Description
AEQ PORTABLE SOLID-STATE RECORDER - PAW-120
The PAW-120 is an extremely compact recorder intended for professional use by sound recordists and reporters in broadcast applications. Audio is recorded into internal memory either as linear 16-bit PCM or with a variety of compression algorithms. It records from a mono internal microphone or from external microphones or line-level inputs through stereo inputs. Recording features include voice-activated recording and automatic level-control. A comprehensive set of audio editing and file-management facilities is included on board. A USB port allows files to be transferred to a computer for further editing or broadcast.
The PAW-120 records audio into non-removable 2GB internal memory either as linear 16-bit WAV files or in one of several data-compressed formats. MP2, MP3, CCITT a-law or u-law and G729a are supported. Sets of primary setup parameters - input, file format, sample frequency, stereo mode and filename - can be saved as templates for sharing between multiple users. For reportage use, automatic level control may be selected, alternatively, recording level may be adjusted manually. The recorder has a built-in mono microphone for journalistic applications, or external microphones (stereo or mono) may be connected. Line-level inputs are also provided. It has a pre-record buffer, selectable from 0.5 to 3 seconds and a voice-operated record feature which can be configured in a variety of ways. An on-board, non-destructive, waveform editor can operate on audio files recorded by the PAW-120 to prepare recordings for immediate broadcast in the field. The internal file-management system is particularly comprehensive, and allows the creation, deletion, renaming of directories and files to suit the user's preferences. The recorder can be connected to a PC or Mac computer by a standard USB cable for file transfer. The computer recognises the PAW-120 as an external drive, in the usual way, for easy file transfer. Audio files may also be downloaded into the PAW-120 from the computer. The recorder is powered by the computer while connected. Monitoring and playback can be with headphones, the built-in loudspeaker, or using the line-level outputs. The PAW-120 is lightweight, constructed in a solid aluminium case, and is only slightly larger than the average mobile phone. It operates from alkaline or rechargeable batteries; user-configurable auto power-down and screen-saver features help to maximise battery life.
