Description
HHB FLASHMIC DIGITAL RECORDING MICROPHONE
The FlashMic combines a high-quality microphone with 1GB of flash recording memory to create a convenient, durable and portable recording device that’s extremely easy to operate. Intended for voice recording, it is particularly suitable for broadcast and press interviewing.
With no fiddly cables and connectors to worry about, journalists can be recording instantly with just a single button-push. Either .WAV linear or MPEG 2 encoded audio files can then be transferred quickly and easily via USB to Macintosh or PC computers and laptops for editing and onward transmission. A date/time stamp is stored along with the file, with the internal real time clock-set/synchronized automatically by the host computer.
FlashMic DRM85
The omni-directional condenser microphone capsule is from Sennheiser. The metal microphone body has, a back-lit LCD display and three control buttons. The display shows time, level, status information and remaining battery power, in addition to a visual low-battery warning which alerts the user to the imminent need to change batteries. The three control buttons are Play, Record and Stop/Menu. In the end of the body is a USB connector and a headphone socket (32 ohms minimum), to take a 3.5mm two-pole jack. This may be used for monitoring whilst recording, replay or to feed a conventional audio input. There is also a combination switch and rotary control for use with the menu systems.
Users can operate the FlashMic as delivered, using the default settings, or create and store nine custom configurations using the straightforward Mac/PC GUI software supplied. In addition, an 'Expert Mode' can be enabled which allows all variable parameters to be accessed directly from the FlashMic body. These are record mode, pre-record buffer (0 to 10 seconds, 2 second increments), record level (automatic or a manual setting for 0 to 100) high-pass filter in/out (12dB/octave, 100Hz), LCD back-light on/off.
The FlashMic uses the FAT32 file format, and when connected to a PC using the USB (USB1.0 or 2.0 protocol) mounts as a removable drive, using USB mass storage device protocol. File transfer is possible with the FlashMic manager software or through Windows ‘Explorer’ or Mac OS ‘Finder’. In addition to configuring the FlashMic, the software provides a means to enter BWF/MPEG file information. This will then be written into the extensions in the audio file to enable easy identification of recordings.
Recording can be 32kHz, 44.1kHz or 48kHz linear, or MPEG1 Layer 2 encoded audio with a choice of four bit rates. The total length of a recording varies from three hours with 48kHz linear PCM to over 18 hours with 32kHz sampled MPEG at 128kb/s, subject to battery-life limitations. Powering is by two, standard AA batteries, either primary or rechargeable. Alkaline 1500mA types will give more than six hours use. Recordings and settings are not lost when changing batteries, although clock settings will be lost after one minute.
Response: 20-20000Hz +/- 1dB. Distortion: Less than 0.1% (20-20000Hz) THD + N, both at at 48 kHz, Linear PCM. Dimensions: 244 x 50 (l x maximum diameter) mm. Weight: 0.37 kg, without batteries.
Included accessories: Storage pouch, stand clamp, USB cable, FlashMic Manager software and 2 x AA batteries.
Optional accessories: Foam-type windshield, folding tripod table stand. A special foam block is available to allow Canford Microphone flags to be used with this microphone - see index "microphone flags".
