Description
SOUNDCHECK NOISE LEVEL INDICATOR
SoundCheck is a simple, key-chain mounting, noise level indicator that helps identify when sound levels are too loud. Three indicator LEDs show if it is safe, up to highly dangerous.
Tests are simple on a ‘point and shoot’ basis, and the behaviour of the LEDs is interpreted as follows:
Green - flickering: | 55dB(A) |
Green - on continuously: | 60dB(A) |
Yellow - flickering: | 75dB(A) |
Yellow - on continuously: | 80dB(A) (onset of ‘first action level’) |
Red - pulsing slowly: | 100dB(A) (beyond ‘second action level’) |
Red - pulsing rapidly: | 100dB(A) (dangerous) |
Red - on continuously: | Greater than 105dB(A) (very dangerous) |
None on, or even flickering: | Blissfully peaceful (or battery is flat) |
‘First action level’ is 80dB(A), this is the level at which an employer must advise of potential hearing danger. ‘Second action level’ is 85dB(A), and is where the employer must provide hearing protection and enforce its use. There are detailed explanations of what is referred to as ‘noise dose’ at: http://www.hse.gov.uk/noise/faqs.htm
It should be noted that SoundCheck is sold as a basic level indicator, and is accurate to within 3dB(A). It is not calibrated or able to be calibrated. It is not a sound level meter. If accurate sound level measurements are required, a calibrated meter should be used.
Included accessories: SoundCheck is supplied with two button cell batteries (CR927 3V). The battery should last for approximately 1000 measurements assuming a duration time of 10 seconds.
