Description

AUDIONICS SC1D DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE MONITOR UNIT

The compact SC1D system monitors digital AND analogue audio signals by means of a pair of powered speakers and a PPM meter. One of six stereo inputs may be selected for checking in control rooms, equipment racks, dubbing rooms or similar facilities, and the unit may also be used as a simple source-selection facility. The unit is AC powered and occupies only 2U of rack space.

An electronically interlocked relay source-selector is combined with a pair of electronically equalised, powered speakers and a stereo analogue PPM meter. The rear panel is fitted with 12 XLR inputs which accept either analogue or digital (AES/EBU or SPDIF) audio. (The connections to these inputs are duplicated on a 56-way Edac connector for convenience). If a digital source is connected to the left input of a pair, this is automatically detected and the output of a 24-bit D-A converter is fed to the monitor circuit. Front panel facilities include a stereo pair of “test” jack inputs (B-gauge, wired as break jacks) which inject signals into the system after the relay matrix directly into the electronically balanced inputs to the monitoring chain. (A pair of XLR connectors on the rear panel provide analogue output feeds of this signal, prior to the volume control, which are duplicated on the Edac connector). Like the rear panel inputs, the test jack inputs can accept either analogue or digital audio. The presence of a valid digital signal is indicated by a lock LED on the front panel, and two more LEDs indicate whether the sample rate is 32, 44.1 or 48kHz. A fourth LED indicates digital signal errors. The volume control adjusts the level to the speakers, or to the stereo headphone socket (A gauge), which mutes the speakers when in use. The speaker equalisation produces an extended output range, suitable for “confidence” checking and fault finding. The PPM meter is a dual, 24-segment LED type marked -12 to +12 in 4dB steps with 1dB resolution. A single bi-colour LED shows the phase relationship between the left and right inputs. Power supply: 230V AC via an IEC mains inlet with fuse holder (cable not supplied). Dimensions: 2U rack-mounting, 300mm deep.
