Description

SADIE 6 MULTI CHANNEL AUDIO RECORDING AND EDITING SOFTWARE - FOR PC

The Studio Audio Disk Editor (SADiE) originally combined hardware DSP with software control on Windows-based platforms. It has now been developed as a stand-alone 'native' application, accessing suitable third-party audio interfaces and hardware as well as SADiE hardware. Four versions of the application are available tailored to the varying needs of the professional end user in radio production, video post production and mastering environments.

File Formats Support

Audio files may be recorded and imported in a wide range of formats, including WAV, BWF, AIFF, WAVE64, AIFC, FilmWAV, Lightworks IDS and SDII. Import and Export to other DAW applications using AES31 file interchange is standard. OMF (Open Media File), and AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) will be supported with the use of an optional plug-in purchased separately and becoming available during 2010.

Platform And Hardware Requirements

At the time of writing SADiE 6 requires Microsoft Windows XP (service pack 3 preferred) with an AMD Athlon64 6000+ dual-core processor or Pentium equivalent, two 7200rpm hard drives, (one 250GB 'system' drive and one 500GB 'audio/project' drive), one CDRW drive, note that for writing operations Nero V7 software is required, not supplied, and 4GB 667MHz DDR2 RAM. These specifications are subject to changes but should be considered a minimum specification. SADiE 6 is Windows 7 32-bit compatible.

Licensing And Support

SADiE products are licensed for use on a single computer. On installation the program can licence itself with one of the following options. Either it may be licensed to the PC hardware, much in the same way as Microsoft Windows is licensed, or the program can license itself to SADiE hardware if present. An option for a license on a USB dongle, which makes the license transportable from one PC to another, is likely to become available during 2010. Note that multi-user server options for all versions and educational licences, including personal licenses for students, for the Sound Suite package are available on request. Technical support and software sub version updates are available online at www.sadie.com. On initial purchase, telephone technical support with SADiE is included in the purchase price. This support expires 12 months after the initial purchase. Further 12 month support contracts can be purchased directly from SADiE.

Availability And Compatibility

SADiE Version 6 will be available in the first quarter of 2010. The program is compatible with all SADiE 5 hardware including the now discontinued PCM2, BB2 and PCM ranges. All SADiE systems prior to version 5 are not compatible but attractive upgrade packages are available, details available on request. Prior to SADiE 6 becoming commercially available SADiE 5.6 core program with appropriate plug-in’s corresponding to the four packages outlined below will be provided. However note that SADiE 5.6 will only run on SADiE hardware/DSP cards. SADiE 5.6 systems supplied after September 1st 2009 are entitled to a copy of the appropriate SADiE 6 package once released, which will be available directly from Sadie (Prism Audio).

SADIE SOFTWARE VERSION 6 - Common components and features

SADiE software version 6 is available in four different packages, with varying processing components tailored primarily for the broadcast, post-production and mastering disciplines, whilst one package contains all features and processing available. Components are based upon the many plug-ins that were available as optional purchases in previous versions of SADiE. As a native application SADiE will operate not only with SADiE hardware but also on any PC with an audio interface or sound card with ASIO or WDM drivers. Although rich in features the software is arranged in a simple and organised manner and all versions comprise a 'Playlist' edit screen to rough-edit and lay out the project over several tracks, a 'Trim' edit screen for fine tuning of edits and a 'Mixer' screen to mix and process the project. Third-party DirectX plug-ins are supported within the SADiE software mixer in addition to the inbuilt processes such as EQ and dynamic control. VST plug-in support is also available as standard.

The program offers up to 50 steps of undo and 'mirroring' of audio files, EDL and other project files to a second hard-drive. Auto-save function backs up the work at five minute intervals, ensuring the security of the project. Import/export functionality comprises support for SADIE 5.6 files and the AES31 file interchange standard. MP3 encoded audio can also be imported and exported and the application also allows ripping directly from CD. Time-code synchronisation and 9-pin machine control, with SADIE acting as a master controller, is available depending on hardware. See 'SADIE Audio Workstations - Hardware options' for the CAT PCI Card which is recommended for this.

SADIE can burn Red Book CDs with full PQ facilities, continuous audio through countdowns, multiple indices in tracks and ISRC codes. Nero V7 software is required for a standard CDRW drive, not supplied. For commercial replication, Mode 2 data UPC/EAN codes can be burned when using the optional Plextor Premium 2 CDRW installed into the host PC, see 'SADIE Audio Workstations - Hardware options'. Note that when the Plextor drive is installed, SADIE writes direct to it without the need for Nero burning software.

Also included in all packages are a mastering-grade limiter, graphic EQ and dither processing. Note that tack counts and processing will vary depending on the host PC and available DSP on audio interfaces and sound cards being used. Optimum performance is available using SADIE PCMH or LRX hardware.

SADIE SOFTWARE VERSION 6 - Radio Producer

This provides the facilities required to aid work-flow in the radio broadcasting environment. In addition to the common features detailed above, the package also includes the facility to edit PQ points and provides CD text facilities. Essentially this package is the most streamlined of the four available, capable of recording, 'hacking' rough edits, fine-tune editing and compiling of program material.

SADIE SOFTWARE VERSION 6 - Post Suite

To accommodate the various demands of a video post-production suite, this package also includes AVI and Quicktime video support. The user can import video files, play and edit them in SADIE's timeline, viewing the picture output in a window on the desktop. A video capture-card and multiple-monitor output card is available to further enhance this facility, see 'SADIE Audio Workstations - Hardware options'. Further expansion of 9-pin machine control is offered with the facility to slave SADIE to an external controller. This is hardware dependent; the CAT PCI Card hardware option is recommended for this.

The package also facilitates automatic conforming of source material on disk to an EDL and re-conforming of material should a change occur in the production process. This includes conforming multi-channel audio to a mono EDL and intelligent re-linking of source material from non-linear location recorders to reel numbers in an EDL. Links may be created for each reel according to multiple rules such as metadata content, (scene number, tape number, reel name), location of the audio, other EDLs, whether created by SADIE or other applications. Lastly a re-conform facility allows a simplified process to re-cut an open SADIE play-list from a mono change-list allowing the sound editor to re-conform a full track-lay to match picture re-cuts. Surround sound mixing capability has been added to this package which is hardware dependent. Optimum performance for this facility is available using SADIE PCMH or LRX hardware.

SADIE SOFTWARE VERSION 6 - Mastering Suite

Whilst this version dispenses with the video and conforming facilities, the 9-pin machine slave-mode is retained, although this is hardware dependent; the CAT PCI Card hardware option is recommended for this. Surround sound mixing is also available. Optimum performance for this facility is available using SADIE PCMH or LRX hardware. Features and processing suitable for the authoring and mastering of Red Book and multimode CDs have been added including PQ list printing, DDPi (Disk Description Protocol) import and creation. Multi-Session CD-R support allows burning of audio material as the first session of a Blue Book or mixed-mode CD thus the audio session is appended with CD-ROM data such as graphics, text or software files, with the use of appropriate third-party CD-ROM writing package, not included.

The Mastering suite also has a real-time sample-rate conversion facility. This enables burning a CD, or creation of a DDPi master, using audio material at any sample-rate when writing directly to the CDR or drive without 'bouncing down' or creating an image file first. This operation requires a Plextor Premium 2 CDRW drive hardware option installed in the host PC when burning to CDR. This plug-in is particularly useful for projects where a CD Pre-Master is created from high sample-rate audio source material. In addition to the standard dithering facilities this suite also includes the Prism Sound SNS (Super Noise Shaping) algorithm. This provides four different algorithms used to dither source material of any sample-rate between 44.1 kHz and 192 kHz to reduce longer word lengths to 16 bits.

SADIE SOFTWARE VERSION 6 - Sound Suite

This contains all the components available, resulting in a very flexible package that will cover most eventualities likely to face the professional sound engineer and editor. This suite is also available with educational licences and special student licences. Details and pricing are available from Sales.
