DENON NETWORK, CD, USB MEDIA PLAYER - DN-700C

For use in professional applications including broadcasting and background or foreground audio playback, this versatile, rack-mounting, design has an embedded web server offering a graphical interface to networked computers. Media may be played from a slot-loading CD drive or by mass-storage devices, including some iPod and iPhone models, connected to the USB socket on the front panel. Audio may also be streamed over a network from media servers, NAS devices and personal computers using DLNA and UPnP. In addition to network control it has wireless infra-red, wired contact-closure and RS232C remote control. Audio interfacing is comprehensive, including balanced analogue and digital outputs.

Compatible media include CD-DA (CD Text), CD-ROM on CD and FAT16, FAT32, HFS+, file systems on USB flash memory, USB hard drives and iPod. WAV, AIFF and AIF extensions are supported at 16 or 24 bit resolution and 96, 48, 44.1kHz sampling. MP3 files and AAC format files with M4A, AAC extensions and using AAC-LC compression may be played at bit-rates from 32 to 320kbps and VBR, at 48 and 44.1kHz sample rates.

The 'Web-Remote' interface allows a user 'full control of the DN-700C from setup menus to transport control and hot start playback, even from mobile browsers' when the DN-700C is connected to a suitably configured Ethernet network. Denon's Product Manager Software is included, for 'single point control of multiple players from a computer over the network. It has full access to the Web Remote as well as power on/off capabilities that allow power-on and power-off sequences to be programmed remotely for single units or multiple units in groups'.

Extra functionality can be accessed through the Denon Professional Pitch Control App, available from the App Store. The user may 'playback and control the iPhone/iPod Touch music files via the app's intuitive layout' including 'instant access of music playback (via artist, title, album and playlist filters) to using the touchscreen pitch or master key slider to increase or decrease the pitch/tempo as desired'. Denon suggest that this is 'ideal for fitness, music practice, dance etc. where maintaining the original key of the music while making tempo changes is important'.

The DN-700C is housed in a 1U rack mounting case. The front panel has a disc loading slot, large play, pause, stop, and cue transport controls and an OLED display for status and menu information. A jog wheel with a push-to-enter function moves between tracks and adjusts output level. Five hot start buttons provide direct access to specific audio files in conjunction with a 'shift' button; they also provide access to key locking, the main menu, repeat A-B playback, and single or continuous play functions. Further buttons give access to fast forward and fast reverse, pitch control, frame search, media selection, track selection and hot button setting. The power switch has an associated LED indicator indicating standby and network standby status. The 6.35mm headphone socket has a sprung, recessed, level control.

The rear has XLR connectors for the stereo balanced analogue and AES stereo outputs, a pair of RCA (phono) types for unbalanced analogue audio , and a further RCA (phono) connector for the IEC-60958 Type II output (S/PDif). The RS232C and remote control connections are 9-pin and 25-pin D-Sub connectors respectively. An RJ45 socket connects to the network. Power is connected through an IEC inlet.
