The DN-F450R offers simplified, cost-competitive solid-state recording and playback capability. The half-rack sized unit provides recording and playback in MP3 and WAV formats to and from SD and SDHC flash memory cards, with USB connectivity to a PC for file-management and transfer. It may be rack mounted in a full-width rack. It has balanced analogue inputs and unbalanced inputs and outputs.
Stereo and mono audio channels are simultaneously available, and PCM WAV and MP3 file formats are supported. Serial and contact closure remote control are supported, and a headphone output with volume control is included. Selectable playback modes, power-on auto-play, marking and mark search, audible quick-search, and easy file-search with a jog wheel are all offered.
A power switch is at the extreme left of the front panel, with a 6.35mm stereo headphone socket with associated level control below. Next there is a USB port for connection to a computer, followed by a slot for an SD/SDHC card. Under it are two LED indicators to show audio present and over level. Next the OLED display shows status and settings information, depending on the current mode, including recording and playback levels. The first of a row of four buttons offers a choice of 'Display' or 'Menu'; the next 'Mark or 'Lock'; the next two are used to search for marks (+/-) or set recording balance for left and right. Under these are the three 'transport' buttons: A 'Recording' button lights red during recording and flashes red when recording is paused, it's alternative function is 'Manual Track'; the remaining two offer 'Stop/Cue' and 'Play/Pause'. A large knob functions as a fast forward or reverse jog-wheel, and is used for menu navigation, with a push to enter switch.
The rear has two female 3-pin XLR connectors for the balanced analogue inputs. A slide switch sets full-scale sensitivity to either 0dBu or +24dBu. Two pairs of RCA(phono) types provide unbalanced analogue inputs and outputs. A 2-pole 6.35mm jack socket is used to connect a wired remote control switch; a 4-pole, 3.5mm jack socket is provided for the connection of the optional RC600PMD microphone remote controller or an external controller. A 9-pin D-sub connector provides an RS-232C port. The DC power inlet is a coaxial connector. Note that there is no digital audio connectivity.
