SONIFEX REDBOX PRO-INTERFACES

These pro-interfaces deal with the common issue of converting balanced to unbalanced or unbalanced to balanced signals when using equipment such as mixers and recording devices. Output versions are designed for use with domestic equipment such as CD players, cassette recorders or FM tuners, these are stereo units for interfacing the outputs of unbalanced equipment to professional balanced lines. The Bi-directional offerings are used commonly with record-replay machines such as cassette recorders these are stereo units for interfacing unbalanced equipment to professional balanced lines. Bi-directional types have conversion to feed unbalanced inputs of a device as well as circuitry to interface the unbalanced outputs to balanced systems.

RB-LU4 - Four Stereo Inputs

This is a rack-mounting design, with four pairs of balanced to unbalanced converters. It will convert four stereo balanced line feeds to connect with unbalanced devices. Although the term ‘stereo’ is used here, the eight individual channels may be used singly or in any combination desired.

The front panel has only a power indicator. On the rear there are four pairs of electronically-balanced 3-pin female XLR input connectors, four pairs of unbalanced RCA (phono) output connectors, and eight gain adjustment trimmers, arranged in pairs. Power is applied to an IEC inlet, which has adjacent fuse and voltage selection switch.

Balanced inputs: +28dBu maximum, 0dBu nominal, 20kohms, common mode rejection greater than 66dB. Response: 20Hz to 20kHz +/-0.1dB. Distortion: 0.01% THD, 1kHz, +8dBu output. Noise: -100dB, unity gain, +8dBu output. Unbalanced outputs: +22dBu maximum, -28dBu to 0dBu for 0dBu input to XLR connectors, 50ohms. Power source: 110-120V or 220-240V AC 6W maximum. Dimensions (WxDxH): 480 x 108 x 42mm. Weight: 1.3kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, AC power cordset with plug.
Optional accessories: The RB-RK3 (1U) rear-panel kit allows the device to be rack-mounted in reverse, with connectors outward. The RB-FR1 front-panel kit allows the device to be used without rack-mounting ears.

RB-UL1 - One Stereo Output

This has two unbalanced converters to balanced converters. It will convert one stereo device, such as a CD player to connect with balanced systems. Housed in a red-anodised aluminium case with apertures for fixing screws, it can be attached to any flat surface, or rack-mounted using accessory panels.

The front panel has a power indicator. The rear panel has two RCA (phono) connectors, providing unbalanced inputs which are fed from the domestic equipment. They are amplified to drive the two electronically-balanced 3-pin male XLR output connectors for connection to the professional systems. Two pre-set controls are provided to adjust the level of the each output. Power is connected to an IEC inlet with associated fuse and voltage selection switch.

Inputs: +28dBu maximum, -15dBu nominal, 10kohms. Response: 20Hz to 20kHz +/-0.1dB. Distortion: 0.01% THD, 1kHz, +8dBu output. Noise: -100dB, unity gain, +8dBu output. Outputs: +28dBu maximum, -15dBu to +15dBu for -15dBu input to phono connectors, 50 ohms. Power source: 110-120V or 220-240V AC 6W maximum. Dimensions (WxDxH): 280 x 108 x 42mm. Weight: 1kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, AC power cordset with plug.
Optional accessories: The RB-RK1 is a 1U panel to rack-mount the device with the connectors inside the rack. The RB-RK2 (1U) rear-panel kit allows the device to be rack-mounted in reverse, with connectors outward.

RB-UL2 - Two Stereo Outputs

This is a twin stereo version of the RB-UL1. It will convert two stereo devices, such as CD players to connect with balanced systems. It has two pairs of RCA (phono) input connectors and two pairs of balanced XLR output connectors, and a total of four gain adjustment trimmers. Otherwise it is as the RB-UL1.

Specifications and accessories: As RB-UL1.

RB-UL4 - Four Stereo Outputs

This is a rack-mounting version, with four unbalanced to balanced converters. It will convert four stereo devices, such as CD players to connect with balanced systems. It has four pairs of RCA (phono) input connectors and four pairs of balanced XLR output connectors, and a total of eight gain adjustment trimmers. Otherwise it is as the RB-UL1.

Specifications: As RB-UL1, except the following. Dimensions (WxDxH): 480 x 108 x 42mm. Weight: 1.3kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, AC power cordset with plug.
Optional accessories: RB-RK3 (1U) rear-panel kit and RB-FR1 front-panel kit.

RB-BL2 - Single Bi-directional Stereo

This has two balanced to unbalanced converters and two unbalanced to balanced converters. It will convert one stereo record-replay device, such as a cassette deck to connect with balanced systems. Housed in a red-anodised aluminium case with apertures for fixing screws, it can be attached to any flat surface, or rack-mounted using accessory panels.

The front panel has a power indicator. The rear panel has two electronically-balanced 3-pin female XLR inputs which are buffered and attenuated to feed two adjacent unbalanced RCA (phono) connectors which connect to the inputs of the domestic equipment. There are two further RCA (phono) connectors, providing unbalanced inputs which are fed from the domestic equipment. They are amplified to drive the two electronically-balanced 3-pin male XLR output connectors for connection to the professional systems. Four pre-set controls are provided to adjust the level of the each output. Power is connected to an IEC inlet with associated fuse and voltage selection switch.

Balanced inputs: +28dBu maximum, 0dBu nominal, 20kohms, common mode rejection greater than 66dB. Unbalanced inputs: +28dBu maximum, -15dBu nominal, 10kohms. Response: 20Hz to 20kHz +/-0.1dB. Distortion: 0.01% THD, 1kHz, +8dBu output. Noise: -100dB, unity gain, +8dBu output. Unbalanced outputs: +28dBu maximum, -28dBu to 0dBu for 0dBu input to XLR connectors, 50ohms. Balanced outputs: +28dBu maximum, -15dBu to +15dBu for -15dBu input to phono connectors, 50 ohms. Power source: 110-120V or 220-240V AC 6W maximum. Dimensions (WxDxH): 280 x 108 x 42mm. Weight: 1kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, AC power cordset with plug.
Optional accessories: RB-RK1 1U rackmount panel and RB-RK2 (1U) rear-panel kit.
