SMPTE 311M HDTV HYBRID FIBRE CAMERA CABLE ASSEMBLIES

Belden, Draka or Furukawa SMPTE 311M cables may be specified with PVC, PUR or halogen free jacket options for flexible, rugged or installed applications. Assemblies may be fitted with SMPTE 304M Lemo 3K.93C or WWFischer 1053 connectors and strain-reliefs, protective sleeves, dust caps and gaiters. Bulkhead connectors may be fitted for mounting into wall boxes, tailgates of outside broadcast vehicles or patch panels.

Installation cables are supplied loose coiled or on transit reels but it is usual to supply deployable camera cable assemblies of over approximately ten metres on specially designed cable-drums. These drums have additional external cable-tail support flanges offering the option to leave a few metres of the 'inner' end of the assembly protruding from the hub of the drum for connection to a vehicle tailboard or wallbox but provides safe winding and storage during transit, see 'Canford cable drums - Steel drum', 'Canford cable drums - Rubber drum' and 'Skeleton cable reels with trolley and reeling stand'.

The convention of a straight plug at the camera end and a straight socket at the CCU, wall box or tail board end of assemblies is now universally adopted. Tailgates and wallboxes would usually be fitted with bulkhead or fixed plugs which would typically be fitted with a simple strain-relief and protective-cap with wire lanyard for attachment to the panel. In permanent installations the CCU end connector would usually have a simple strain-relief and cap. For vehicle or temporary installations where the CCU may be frequently disconnected and the fibre left exposed, an integral strain-relief and protective-sleeve with tethered dust-cap (as used on the main camera cable) is recommended. Bulkhead plug to bulkhead socket assemblies may be supplied for applications such as sports stadiums, theatres or arenas, where connection boxes are used for both camera and OB vehicle connection. Furukawa ARIB (Japanese) specification cable may be substituted if required, or if availability demands. The only differences are the colour-coding of the two copper control wires, red plus grey for SMPTE, red plus green for ARIB, and the central strain-member diameter, 1.6mm SMPTE, 1.8mm ARIB. For all operational purposes the cables are completely identical and interchangeable as the differences are internal.

Due to the custom nature of the majority of these SMPTE assemblies and the many connector, sleeve, cap, cable-jacket and drum options it is impossible to list 'standard products'.
