Canford would like to take the opportunity to congratulate 5 of our staff who have recently received NVQs. Chris Mason, Mark Green, Gavin Winder and James Line all received qualifications in Warehousing and Distribution as a part of the modern apprenticeships scheme, whilst Amalia Pilar was awarded an NVQ in Business Administration.

At a ceremony held recently at the Stadium of Light, home of Sunderland AFC, the Lord and Lady Mayor of Sunderland presented the candidates with their awards. Amalia, Chris, James and Gavin were all awarded Level 2 NVQ and Mark received his Level 3.

Chris and Gavin were quick to explain that the qualifications have enabled them to appreciate the activities of the Canford Logistics department on an operational level. Amalia who works in our International Sales department felt that the format of the courses, a combination of day release and on site visits with tasks directly relating to the post a student occupies, enabled her to feel more confident in her occupation and about her future prospects. Mark identifies the difference between the level 2 and level 3 as the course having approached the topic of the Logistic department from a more strategic or supervisory position and as sees the award as another major step in his personal development.

All the students were keen to identify the flexibility of the courses as a fundamental factor in high value each one places upon their NVQs with all deriving pleasure, from their achievements. No-one actually completes exactly the same course since elements are made up from the precise role a student occupies within an organisation. The students existing qualifications and their previous work history are all taken into account to tailor their learning experience to their exact requirements.

Canford is a long-time supporter of the Modern Apprenticeships scheme and encourages all staff at all levels to continue their personal development whether as part of day release courses or on their own time. We have an established relationship with ITEC, a training agency based in Southwick, Sunderland and hope to continue this partnership.
