DN-501C - Digital outputs
This broadcast-grade, 1U rack-mounting CD and USB media player has both balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs as well as S/P-Dif and AES/EBU digital outputs and is intended for broadcast and other professional use. As well as the ability to import (or 'rip') data from CD to an attached USB storage device as a WAV file, additional audio file formats such as MP3, AAC and AIFF can be replayed as well as CD-DA. Other functions include connection via USB of an iPhone or iPod, allowing for digital playback of an iTunes library, and the ability to work with the free Denon Professional 'Pitch Key' app (available on the Apple AppStore) to allow control of playback by adjusting pitch, tempo or both of any audio file in the device.
The front panel has a blue, multi-function, OLED display, showing time and track data and other disc information. Transport controls are 'Play', 'Pause', 'Stop' and 'Forward' and 'Rewind'. There are also buttons for 'Cue', and 'Media' which switches between media types, 'Trk.No.' which allows tracks to be selected directly, 'Frame' which allows a frame search mode and starts 'Audible Pause' (allowing frame by frame reviewing of the audio in an audible state). Alternative functions of these buttons, by holding the 'Shift' button, include 'List' (displays media file list), 'Hot Set' (sets Hotstart tracks) and 'Pitch' button enables vari-speed mode, the speed being adjusted by the 'Shift', Forward and Rewind buttons to set to +/- 16% (2 semitones) of nominal in 0.1% increments. A second group of buttons include 'Lock' allowing full or partial button locking, 'Menu' selection, 'Text' display, an 'A-B' button which sets up loop-start and end points and 'Single/Cont.', which selects continuous or repeat play. There is a 6.35mm 3-pole jack socket for headphones, with a level control, and a large, power button with bi-colour LED, which can also be locked.

In addition to network control it has wireless infra-red, wired contact-closure and RS232C remote control.
The 'Web-Remote' interface allows a user 'full control of the DN-700C from menu setup to transport control and hot start playback, even from mobile browsers' when the DN-700C is connected to a suitably configured Ethernet network - connection to a network will require a cable, see Patchcords, RJ45. Denon Product Manager software is included, for 'single point control of multiple players from a computer over the network'. Extra functionality such as pitch/tempo adjustment can be accessed through the 'Denon Professional Pitch Control' App, available from the App Store.
The front panel has a large transport control section and an OLED display for status and menu information. A push-to-enter jog wheel moves between tracks and adjusts output level. Five hot-start buttons provide direct access to specific audio files; they also provide access to key-locking, the main menu, repeat A-B playback, and single or continuous play functions. Further buttons give access to fast forward and fast reverse, pitch control, frame search, media selection, track selection and hot button setting. A 6.35mm headphone socket has a sprung, recessed, level control.
