Small enough to be hidden away behind a CD or DVD machine this is an economical solution for the problems of interfacing optical and SPDIF signals to and from AES-3 format. The ITB-2F interfaces both a send and return path, to and from a consumer S/PDIF device, with AES3 professional systems.
The ITB-2F is housed in a black-anodised extruded aluminium box with end-plates protected by an ABS bezel. The front panel has an RCA(phono) socket and a Toslink optical connector for the S/PDIF input from the consumer device. The input is auto-sensed. There is a similar pair of connectors for the S/PDIF output to the device. Both pairs of connectors have associated tri-colour 'Lock' LEDs to indicate when there is no signal, there are errors or the signal is 'OK'. An illuminated 'SRC' switch is the only control, an LED indicates power.
The other end-plate has two 3-pin XLR connectors for the AES input and AES output, female and male respectively. A 2.5mm coaxial socket provides the power input.
The S/PDIF input is converted to AES level, channel status information is automatically converted to professional format and passed to the AES output. The AES input is passed to both the S/PDIF and Toslink outputs. The channel status information is converted automatically to 'consumer, copy enable', suitable for consumer CD-R and computer interfaces.
While the 'SRC' switch is selected, The AES output is clocked by the AES input, and the necessary sample-rate conversion from consumer input to AES output is performed. The S/PDIF output is clocked from the S/PDIF input. As a result the consumer and professional systems are completely isolated.
