Robust and practical two-part foam-cavity windshields, the Smoothies will give wind-noise reduction of up to 22dB. They are available in a large range of sizes to fit most popular shotgun and condenser microphones.
Smoothie Windshields
Constructed of an open acoustic foam base and covered by a thin foam outer skin, Smoothies fit microphones from 19mm to 25mm diameter depending on which of the two sizes is chosen. Medium Hole (MH or ‘Standard Hole’ as Rycote now refer to it) fits 19-22mm diameter microphones and large hole (LH) is for 24-25mm diameter models.
Each hole size is available in a series of lengths. The length of the Smoothie is chosen by considering the distance from the front of the microphone to the end of the slots in the body of the microphone; it is essential that all slots are fully covered, so choose the model longer than this distance. Rycote offer a product finder at www.rycote.com to determine an appropriate model if a sample is not available. The Smoothie sizes are the same as Softie windshields.
