AMPETRONIC LOOP DRIVERS - Small steel rooms

These induction-loop drivers are packaged in rugged steel cases, for use in lifts (or elevators) and similar steel rooms, and other harsh environments.

HLS-2A

An induction loop driver specially designed for use with lifts (also known as elevators in some countries), intercoms, help points and kiosk systems this uses Class-D amplification so both heat omission and power consumption are reduced. The hardware draws less than 2.9W at 12V DC in normal operation. Providing a single loop of up to 56m sq. the Hearing Loop System 2A is housed in a simple steel enclosure, designed particularly for integration where space is at a premium, or existing intercom systems are positioned.

All input and output connectivity and adjustment controls can be found by removing the front of the enclosure. Low impedance, line-level inputs 1 and 2 are by way of Wago 2060 cage clamp for 0.2 to 0.75mm sq. solid-core or untinned, fine-stranded wire, whilst the loop output is via Wago 2061 cage clamp for 0.5 to 1.5mm sq. solid core or untinned fine-stranded wire. Input 1, input 2, loop-current and metal-loss correction (0dB to 3dB adjustable) can be adjusted with individual screwdriver-operated controls. 12V DC power input is by way of Wago 2061 cage clamp for 1.5mm sq. solid core or untinned fine stranded wire.

Input sensitivity: -16dBu (for full output). Overload: Greater than +22dBu. Signal to noise ratio: Better than 90dB. Frequency response: 100Hz to 5kHz. Power supply voltage: 12-24V DC, nominal; 8V, minimum; 30V, maximum. Power consumption: 2.88W (240mA), (12V DC supply), continuous pink noise; 9.2W (765mA) continuous sine; 0.17W (14mA) quiescent Power Save; 14.4W (1200mA) maximum short term peak. Environment: IP22, -30 to 75 degrees Celsius. Dimensions: 77 x 124 x 18 (WxLxH) mm, including mounting. Weight: 243g.

Included accessories: Handbook, 1x O-Ring, 2x lid screw (M3x8), 1x Wago terminal tool.

HLS-2B

The HLS-2B has many of the design features and application as the HLS-2A however it has the added benefit of battery back up, providing twelve hours of standby or two hours of full operation. This hearing-loop system can provide an area up to 36m sq. coverage at 1:1, or up to 29m sq. coverage at 3:1. When ceiling mounted in a lift, the area coverage is reduced to 16m sq.at 1:1 with a 1m feed cable and 12m sq. at 1:1 with a 2m feed cable.

Loop output connection and inputs 1 and 2 are via individual Wago 264 cage clamps for 0.78 to 2.5mm sq. solid core or untinned fine-stranded wire. AC power supply connection, DC battery, and DC output connections are via screw terminals, with the AC power connection being fused with a 0.63AT fuse (for 230V AC operation).

Input sensitivity: -16dBu (for full output). Overload: Greater than +22dBu. Signal to noise ratio: Better than 90dB. Frequency response: 100Hz to 5kHz. Power supply voltage: 230V AC. Power consumption (230V AC supply): 12W (110mA) continuous pink noise; 25W (190mA) continuous sine. Environment: IP22, -20 to 50 degrees Celsius. Dimensions: 158 x 366 x 49 (WxLxH) mm. Weight: 3kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, 1x P-clip 3.2mm, 1x P-clip 5.0mm, 1x P-clip 6.5mm, 3x M3x6 screws, 1 x A6 deaf logo.

Application note: A major problem with modern lifts is their structure, which often comprises a cage made of stainless steel sheet, fixed in a steel cradle. This metal cage causes very significant losses which are frequency dependent. The HLS range incorporate the necessary facilities to correct for these losses in normal passenger lifts. To achieve acceptable performance, the loop cable must be on the inside of the cage. This is normally achieved with a special loop made of metal bars fixed to, but insulated from, the ceiling.

Warranty: Ampetronic offer a five year warranty on these loop drivers effective from date of shipment, provided the equipment has been used exclusively for the intended purpose and has not been modified, altered, used in an inappropriate manner or repaired by a non-authorised person. The battery included with the HLS-2B is also covered by a five year warranty.
