LYNX TESTOR SIGNAL GENERATORS - HD, SD SDI Video - AES Audio

These are compact, hand-held, broadcast quality, digital test-signal generators designed for multi-format digital infrastructures. Ideally suited to signal-path integrity testing, the Testor provides digital video test-patterns with embedded and external AES audio test signals. The multi-format genlock input with cross-lock capability and fully adjustable timing also allows signals to be inserted into any part of a digital multi-format system.

PTG 3610B

The module has two independent digital-video outputs, each of which can have a different test pattern assigned to it. The unit can be configured to operate in the following formats. SDTV: 525, 50.94Hz; 625, 50Hz. HDTV: 1080i, 59.94, 60, 50Hz; 1080P, 30, 29.97, 25, 24, 23.98Hz; 1080PSF, 25, 24, 23.98Hz; 720P, 60, 59.94, 50, 30, 29.97, 25, 24, 23.98Hz.

Eight independent digital audio test signals are provided, 20 or 24-bit. Each channel has fully adjustable gain, 0 to -60dB FS, test-tone frequency, 20Hz to 20kHz in 1kHz steps, adjustable phase and selectable momentary pause (silence). The eight audio channels are arranged into 8x AES streams and can be embedded into both video outputs. They are also supplied as four separate AES output signals.

Testor has a flexible reference input that allows it to genlock automatically to SDTV analogue bi-level sync or HD tri-level sync sources. Cross-lock capability allows a SDTV reference sync input to generate a genlocked HD tri-level output sync and visa versa. Input timing adjustment of one frame is provided, adjustable in lines and pixels, so the Testor can be genlocked and timed into any system installation.

A 48KHz, +5V TTL word-clock reference signal is also provided, for audio applications which require an external reference. Both the video sync and word clock outputs will free-run with no reference connected and can be used a sync reference source. With reference sync presence, all video, audio, sync and word-clock outputs are frequency locked to reference.

An internal library of static standard test patterns is included, as well as dynamic patterns including a real-time zone-plate generator, IRT audio synchronisation pattern and a LCD panel persistence test. Additional patterns can also be loaded via the integrated Compact Flash slot, using standard DPX files.

User defined character overlay is provided for source identification purposes. Up to 22 characters can be overlaid with selectable font colour, background colour and screen position. Each of the two video outputs has a separate character generator.

A simple monochromatic display is provided which can show the selected test pattern for each output as well as providing the on-screen menu and control selections. Control and setup is simple, using the integrated rotary / push-switch control knob. All settings made are automatically stored in internal flash ram and are preserved through power cycles and long term storage. In the event of accidental power loss the module will retain the settings.

The RCT 3602 Service Adapter provides an alternative to the integrated local control. When connected the module will be recognised automatically and settings can be configured using a standard Windows PC or laptop via USB.

This is functionally identical to the PTG 3610B, except for the audio outputs, which are AES3, balanced, 110 ohms, on a 15-pin female D-sub connector.

Testor Packages

The two models of Testor are also available as a package which includes the Testor itself, an RPS 3601-3 universal inline power supply (IEC inlet) and an RCT 3602 Service adapter. The items are packed in a foam filled case which has cut-outs to take the equipment and leads.
