EDAC MULTIPIN CONNECTORS
A range of lockable multipin connectors widely used in the audio industry, also known as EDAC 516 series connectors. They are fully intermateable with ELCO 8016 series connectors. Available in 5 sizes, denoted by the maximum number of contact pins that can be housed – 20, 38, 56, 90 and 120. Only the number of pins required for the circuits to be carried need be used, and polarisation to prevent mismating may also be set by the user. Connectors are supplied in component form, and all parts should be ordered separately.
Cable types are designated plug type (“male” – MC) or socket type (“female” FC) and have an actuating screw. Panel/chassis types are designated plug type (“male” – MP) or socket type (“female” – FP) and have a locking nut. (Note that the housings are similar, so actuating screw types can be panel mounted, and locking nut types can be cable mounted, though this usage is less common). All connector bodies are high-impact polycarbonate.
Contacts are identical for both plug and socket types, and are available in solder or crimp termination types, together with a mini wire wrap and short PCB mount type. Note that with 1/0.5mm wire, the conductor should be doubled back on itself before crimping.
Metal covers feature a removable side panel for ease of fitting and better access to the termination area, and cable clamp that can be positioned for both top or side entry.
Polycarbonate plastic covers have top cable entry (cable parallel to pins) or side cable entry (cable at right angles to contact pins). Screws are supplied with each cover for fixing it to the connector. 20, 38 and 56 way cable connectors have knurled locking screw. 90 and 120 way have a large locking knob – spare knobs, hex screws and hex keys are available.

Spare cover screws are available: Size A fits 20 way cover, size B fits 38, 56 and 90 way covers, size C fits 120 way covers. Packs of 10. Note that during 1993, EDAC cover screw threads changed from US/Imperial sizes to metric.
Special small head bolts for panel mounting connectors are available: Size A suits 20 way, size B suits 38, 56 and 90 way, size C suits 120 way. Supplied with nuts and shakeproof washers. Packs of 10 sets.
Spare parts and mounting hardware may be used with both EDAC and ELCO connectors (note that ELCO covers use metric thread screws). Fitting tools are sourced from both EDAC and ELCO in order to offer a comprehensive choice to the user – they are fully interchangeable.
