HIROSE (HRS) MULTIPIN CONNECTORS
Hirose Electric manufacture several ranges of multipin connectors, which are widely used on Japanese manufactured video equipment. Manufacturer’s technical data on specific types is available on request.
HR10 Series
Miniature 4, 6 and 12 pin connectors, 5 keyway orientation guides and sliding ring locking (pull to de-latch, automatic latch engagement on insertion). Pin contacts recessed to prevent damage when trying to find correct keyway alignment. Matt nickel finish zinc/brass alloy shells, gold plated pins. Cable diameter range 4.8-5.2mm (4 and 6 pin types), 6.8-7.2mm (12 pin types), smaller cables should be brought up to this diameter by using Hellerman sleeving. The plug insert is screwed into the shell, but as the main (sliding) part will rotate, the best method is to mate the insert with a chassis-mount type, and use this to hold the insert while the shell is screwed on. An open ended spanner is useful to tighten body onto insert, and cable clamp onto body, size 8mm across flats for 4 and 6 pin types, 11mm across flats for 12 pin type.
HR10A Series
A lower cost version of the HR10 series, these are fully compatible. Details are as for HR10, except that bodies have a knurled outer surface, and cable glands are plastic (metal on HR10 series).
JRC Series (Sony 'Q')
14 and 26 pin connectors, with 5 keyway orientation guides and 3 aperture bayonet locking ring on cable types. Matt nickel finish aluminium alloy shells. Inserts retained by 1.27mm hex socket head screw, suitable hex key available. Inter-mateable with other connectors to JIS C54JZ specification, also known as Sony ‘Q’ type connector. Maximum cable diameter 11.0mm (14 pin) and 12.2mm (26 pin).
RM15T Series
10 and 12 pin circular connectors, with screw type locking rings. Matt nickel plated finish aluminium alloy shells, and solder contacts. Inserts retained by 1.27mm hex head socket screw, suitable hex key available. There are three items available for each pin configuration and for each sex: cable mount with locking ring, panel mount with thread, and cable mount with thread (for extension cables). Maximum cable diameter 8mm.
1300 Series
Rectangular connectors, with double press-to-release latch. Items are ordered separately as required: female connector, male connector (both with solder contacts), cable housing with latch lugs. ‘Connector’ parts cannot be used without housing. Maximum cable diameter 10mm, housings have both end and side cable outlets and are supplied with blanking plate to cover unused hole.
1600 Series
20 and 34 pin rectangular connectors, with push-button latch release. There are three items available for 20 and 34 pin configurations, which are ordered separately as required: female connectors (both with solder contacts), and a panel housing for 34 types. ‘Connector’ parts cannot be used without cable or panel housing, as appropriate. Maximum cable diameter 11mm (both 20 and 34 pin types).
