Yamaha’s series of two-way active monitors are designed for use in production studios, post-production suites, recording studios and anywhere where a critical monitoring of stereo or surround formats is required.
Yamaha MSP3A powered monitor is the latest version of the popular MSP3 range. Released in 2021, this compact, 2-way active monitor is suitable for small music production studios and post-production suites. It comprises a 100mm low frequency driver and a 22mm dome tweeter for high frequency reproduction. The monitor is capable of reproducing frequencies from 67Hz to 22kHz, and is driven by an internal 22 watt amplifier with a maximum output level of 99dB SPL, at 1m. New to the MSP3A is a twisted flare port design, which diffuses turbulence in the output air flow to create a smoother flow. This produces less noise and therefore the sound reproduction, particularly in low frequencies can be heard ‘more clearly and accurately’.
The input stage of the MSP3A has also had an upgrade. In place of a phono input and both XLR/jack input, MSP3A has a combination 3-pin XLR/6.35mm jack input for line input 2, whilst retaining an unbalanced at -10dBu on a phono (RCA) socket for line input 1. The power switch is also at the rear, and the mains input is via IEC connector for use with the included power cord. The front panel has level controls for each input, +/- 3dB HF and LF EQ trim controls at 10kHz and 100Hz respectively and a green power LED. MSP3A may be used free-standing, or mounted on the wall or ceiling with an optional bracket. A further option is to use the BMS-10A mic stand adaptor, which permits the speaker to be mounted on a standard microphone stand.

This is a bi-amped, 2-way active monitor for use in project studios, mastering and post-production. The monitor has a 125mm LF driver driven by a 40 watt amplifier plus a 25mm titanium dome tweeter driven by a 27 watt amplifier, with a crossover frequency of 2.5kHz.
The cabinet is a bass reflex design, and is magnetically shielded to minimise interaction with video monitors. The HF driver incorporates a wave-guide horn to achieve a dispersion angle of greater than 120 degrees. Balanced +4dBu and unbalanced -10dBu inputs are provided on the rear panel on an XLR and a 6.35mm jack socket respectively, and two slide-switches adjust the LF (-3/+1.5dB at 60Hz) and HF (+/-1.5dB at 15kHz) response. The power switch and IEC mains connector are also at the rear. The front panel has a detented level control and a bi-colour LED to indicate normal operation (green) and the onset of clipping (flashes red).
