The expandable innovative EMS modular 19″ rack case ‘grows’ in unit size by the simple addition of side panels, giving tremendous flexibility, eliminating the need to purchase another rack to accommodate additional equipment.
EMS rack cases come in 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 unit heights, in two depths: EMS400 which has a rack-to-rack body depth of approx. 400mm, and EMS500 which accommodates deeper equipment, up to 480mm. The 3U is delivered fully assembled, all larger racks have been pre-assembled and flat-packed, taking just a few moments to complete (full instructions and fixings are enclosed with every rack). When joined, the interlocking panels form a rigid case, with a protection level far superior to one-piece moulded plastic rack cases. Modular expander kits allow the creation of larger racks, without even having to remove all the equipment already fitted. This is a considerably cheaper method of getting more space than buying another rack. Similarly, racks can readily be reduced in size.
High pressure injection-moulded EMS rack cases are made from a tough, impact-resistant polycarbonate composite, similar to that used for car bumpers and crash helmets. A non-heat sensitive material, it does not buckle with hot equipment such as large power amplifiers. Obviously racks are extremely light in weight, yet their clever construction makes them rugged enough to withstand significant rough handling. Finished wipe-clean matt black, all racks and expander kits are pre-fixed with silver coloured military standard fittings.
EMS rack cases have been designed with the user in mind, and unlike some other rack cases on the market, are fitted with front and back rack strip as standard. Both racks and expander kits have been co-ordinated to allow adequate ventilation of equipment via vents. Recessed sprung handles are carefully positioned for even-weight distribution and manoeuvrability, and the interlocking design incorporates ‘cross-structure’ supports for hidden protection.
This case does not use cage nuts for fixing into the front and rear angles. Complete mounting kits of screw, washer nut and nut holder are provided with each rack or extension kit. Spare fixing kits (EMS111), contain 12 rack bolts, nuts, plastic cup washers and 6 nut holders with each holder accommodating two nuts. See illustration.
An unusual feature of these racks is that the top can be removed, and then by using the optional horizontal or slanting mounting kits, equipment such as mixers can be mounted into the top face, with other equipment mounted to the normal vertical rack strips. This configuration is ideal for touring music, PA or theatre groups, speeding up rig and de-rig as interconnections are left in place during transit.
Support “shelves” (steel side brackets, not a full width shelf are available). Other accessories include a wooden wheelboard complete with four 75mm rubber tyred castors, stacking feet (supplied as a set of 4) and corner buffers (set of 8) for additional corner protection. All accessories are supplied complete with fixing hardware.
