M-S MICROPHONE PRE-AMPLIFIER
The M-S microphone amplifier has been designed in response to the increasing interest in high quality M-S recording techniques. This unit allows the operator to record in M-S format using an A-B microphone combination, or to record in A-B using an M-S mic combination. Alternatively, the matrix can be bypassed and the unit used as a two channel microphone amplifier for unprocessed A-B to A-B or M-S to M-S operation. Channel gain, adjustable from 20 to 70dB, and balance/width controls are provided, as are switches for P48 phantom power, channel II phase reversal, 20dB pad, 3 way low pass filter, matrix mode and output level. Overload and low/dead battery indicators are provided.
The unit uses one PP3 size battery, which is easily accessible at the rear. Alkaline or lithium battery types are recommended. Typical life of an alkaline battery may be between 4.5 to 5 hours, depending on mic power consumption and programme characteristics. The unit may also be powered by a 5-18V DC supply connected to the rear panel 3.5mm jack socket.
The unit features transformer balanced inputs and electronically balanced outputs at mic or line level, and incorporates the latest low noise low distortion electronics. Input and output connections are on 5 pin XLRs to reduce size and weight; ‘Y’ adapters to 3 pin XLRs are available. Input Y-lead 20-273 has 2 ×3-pin female wired to 5-pin male, output Y-lead 20-274 has 5-pin female wired to 2 ×3-pin male. The unit is housed in a robust extruded aluminium case with protective ABS end bezels. Manufactured by Canford.
An optional, durable soft case offers protection to the pre-amp for transit or in use, the padded construction giving extra comfort when worn over the shoulder (using the detachable anti-slip shoulder strap), or attached to the user’s belt (75mm belt loop provided). Access to rear connectors is provided, as is access to the front panel controls by a flap (with hook and loop fastening).
