Originally developed for the grueling task of transcribing police interviews day-in, day-out, these proven machines are well capable of providing dependable, reliable service in many similar, or less onerous, environments. Highly robust to withstand the rigorous play, stop and rewind cycle involved in transcribing, they have task-specific features such as a LED tape position display, foot-pedal control, an internal loudspeaker with headphone outputs, variable replay speed and backspace controls.

5205 Two Channel Cassette Transcriber

Constructed in an all-metal case, with the level and transport controls laid flat for easy control, and a sloping panel with the cassette transport and LED read-out for ease of access, this unit is purpose-designed for the task. Operation is simple; one-touch buttons provide wind, forward, play and stop functions. A full, three-motor, transport ensures that accuracy and precision is foremost within the transcription procedure. A control is fitted to give a variable back-space between zero and three seconds.

The channel levels can be varied with two audio faders. There is sufficient gain available at the maximum position of each to provide full output volume from an under-recorded tape. The two replay channels are mixed together to form a single audio output. This can be monitored through the internal loudspeaker or through headphones; one or two pairs can be used. The standard 6.35mm (1/4 inch) headphone jack is wired so that mono or stereo headphones may be used, with two-pole and three-pole jacks. The loudspeaker is muted automatically when a jack is inserted.

Headphone output: 3V nominal, 10 ohms source impedance, suits the majority of medium to high headphones.
