DENON BLU-RAY, DVD, SD CARD PLAYER - DN-V500BD

This professional machine replays material recorded in a wide variety of formats from most disc types, including Blu-ray. File formats supported include AVCHD, DivX, MP3, WMA and JPEG. It will also replay certain formats from SD cards. Video resolutions up to 1080p, including 1080/24p are available as HDMI and component video. Compatibility with Blu-ray-specific audio coding systems such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio are included as well as 7.1 multi-channel audio from standard DVD-V discs. An ethernet connection provides support for BD-Live material. It may be rack mounted and is supplied with a remote control.

Audio and video processing circuitry are internally separated and use advanced chip-sets for high-quality reproduction. HDMI version 1.3 is fully supported with video resolutions up to 1080/24p as well as throughput of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio digital bit-streams for down-stream decoding. An ethernet port is included for Internet connection, allowing Blu-ray discs with Bonusview to download additional material, and to facilitate software updates. The DN-500BD is also compatible with AVCHD and DivX video file formats. Multi-channel audio formats up to 7.1 are supported, with full decoding of Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS. It will decode 96kHz and 192kHz sample-rate audio from Blu-ray discs. Stereo down-mixes may be generated simultaneously. For still-image applications, Kodak Picture CDs and PC-created discs with JPEG files can be replayed. It will also play audio CDs, and WMA or MP3 audio files on CDs or DVDs of various types. AVCHD, MP3, WMA, and JPEG files recorded onto SD or SDHC cards can be replayed. Remote control is available using the supplied IR handset or via the RS-232C port.

The front panel has an illuminated on/standby button and the usual set of transport controls, with buttons for 'Play', 'Pause', 'Stop', 'Fwd Search', 'Rev Search', 'Next', 'Previous' and 'Eject'. An 'HDMI Resolution' button sets the HDMI output video resolution to one of six available, from 480i NTSC/576i PAL to 1080/24p. The disc-drawer and main multi-function dot-matrix display are centrally-mounted. Display data is simplified, and only time and track information and transport status are shown in normal playback. There is a card slot for SD or SDHC cards; miniSD and microSD cards may be used with a suitable adapter.

The RC-1129 infra-red remote control allows control of all other configuration settings, disc navigation and other features. In addition to the usual transport, cursor and numeric keys, there are also dedicated keys giving direct access to certain set-up menus, including 'Audio', 'Subtitle', 'Search' and 'Setup'.

All connections are made at the rear panel. Composite and component analogue video outputs use RCA (phono) sockets. An HDMI socket provides digital HDMI video and audio. Unbalanced analogue audio is available from RCA (phono) sockets for the left, right, centre, left and right surround and left and right rear multi-channel outputs. Two further sockets output stereo left and right, which can be a down-mix of the multi-channel audio, depending on disc type. Digital audio is available on another RCA (phono) socket; depending on disc type, this may provide Dolby or DTS data, or two-channel PCM data. A 9-pin female D-sub connector is provided for RS-232C serial remote control, allowing integration with control systems such as Crestron or AMX. Two 3.5mm, 2-pole jack sockets permit the DN-V500BD to be 'chained' to other Denon infra-red controlled products, enabling a single handset to control several items of equipment. An RJ-45 ethernet socket, 10Base-T/100Base-TX allows the player to be connected to the internet. AC input is via a polarised two-pole receptacle. The unit is fan-cooled, the fan being mounted on the rear panel.
