SOUND DEVICES PORTABLE MIXERS

Compact, portable mixers for studio or field use. Two and three-channel versions, all may be powered from standard batteries or external DC supplies.

MixPre-D

Discontinued

The MixPre-D from Sound Devices is a compact, studio-quality two-channel, portable, stereo microphone mixer with headphone monitoring facilities. Its audio performance and comprehensive features make it suitable for the front end of any studio or field production system. It also has the ability to function as a class compliant USB portable hardware interface.

It features two balanced microphone inputs, plus switchable phantom powering (48V/12V), high pass filter (80Hz/160Hz) and adjustable peak limiters with limit/clip indication which can be ganged. Each input can be routed to either output bus, as a two channel preamplifier (for stereo, with L and R able to be reversed), or to a common bus as a simple mixer. In addition, each channel of a tape return input can be routed to various locations, so when additional inputs are needed (such as when multiple wireless receivers are used) the tape return channels can be independently routed to the main output bus of the MixPre-D to act as additional inputs (3 and 4).

A 16-segment LED 2-channel meter facility is provided with a 'sunlight' display with adjustable intensity, plus balanced line outputs and unbalanced tape output. A mid-side stereo (MS) matrix with width control and front-panel channel flip are included. The headphone monitor can be switched to tape return. A 1kHz tone generator plus slate microphone are provided.

Mic, Line or AES digital selectable outputs, with a sample rates of 44.1, 48, or 96kHz offered. Uses 24-bit, class-compliant USB streaming output for interconnection with Mac OS, Windows, Linux, and select iOS devices, with the computer audio monitored via the MixPre-D headphone output. A dedicated mic-level output on locking TA3 connector, is useful for unbalanced camera inputs (such as digital SLR types) along with a line-level output on 3 -pole, 3.5mm mini-jack.

The MixPre has a durable aluminum chassis to withstand the demands of field and studio environments, with belt loop fixings. The unit is powered by 2 AA size batteries (nominal life approx. 4 hours with phantom off) or external 10V-17V DC (locking Hirose type connector), with a power LED that also gives low power warning.

302

Discontinued

The 302 is a very compact 3-input field microphone mixer, which interfaces with wireless transmitters and receivers, camera audio inputs of all kinds, and external audio recorders. Its microphone inputs share the same circuitry of all Sound Devices field production tools, and are transformer balanced. All controls are accessible on its three main surfaces, there are no hidden controls. The high-efficiency power circuitry runs the mixer from either three internal AA batteries or external 5-18V DC.

The inputs are switchable between microphone level, transformer balanced (Lundahl), or line level. Features include continuously adjustable coarse and fine gain, high-pass filter, pan switches, limiters on inputs and outputs, stereo and MS linking of channel 1 and 2, phantom (48V/12V) or ‘T’ microphone powering selectable per channel and pre-fade channel monitoring in headphones. Multiple outputs are provided at mic and line level (balanced), together with comprehensive headphone monitoring selection, plus sunlight-viewable LED meters with proprietary software-selected ballistics. An on-board MS stereo matrix is included.
