Canford Audio team up with Oticon Medical, connecting Tecpro to a customers’ hearing device
One of Canford's customers Paul James works in the theatre industry. Unfortunately he has suffered hearing loss – and now has an implant behind his ear to which he connects an Oticon Medical Ponto Plus sound processor.These types of solutions are called a bone anchored hearing solution. Pauls sound processor is then connected to an Oticon Medical Streamer, through which audio sources can be transmitted to his sound processor.
How the Oticon Medical system works
The sound processor is worn attached to the implant and then a streamer (wireless device) is worn. The Oticon Streamer also has built in Bluetooth connectivity and this enables Paul to take calls on his mobile phone, or play music from a portable music player.
The challenge
Whilst working in theatre productions, Paul uses a lot of Tecpro Communtication equipment which allows the team to communicate with each other via a 2 way system (full Duplex). He contacted the Canford Product team asking if it would be possible to connect his Tecpro headset and Tecpro beltpack directly to his Oticon Streamer device?
Rod Fawcett,one of the Canford Product Managers took the enquiry and understood exactly what was required, the solution was to offer a bespoke adapter lead.
Victoria Baber, a representative from Oticon Medical, visited Canford Washington site to demonstrate the Oticon Streamer device, so we could understand clearly what was required and the Product Team designed a specific adaptor lead for Paul’s application.

The solution
Canford proposed an adapter lead for the Tecpro intercom XLR4 headset interface. Working closely with Paul and Oticon Medical we designed a specific adaptor lead to provide a solution which Paul describes as “Brilliant”.
Paul comments:
I was working at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre, I was trying to talk during the show to the lighting technician, he was having problems hearing me but I could hear every word he said. It was a loud show as it turned out. What was a disadvantage to me in the past has now been turned into an advantage, as with the Oticon streamer and the Canford Tecpro adapter lead I now have the option to mute the ambient sound processor mic, so even if I was having problems with loud on-stage noise, I have the option to press ‘mute’ but still continue to hear talkback instructions - how fantastic it that!
