Canford sponsored the craft award for audio at the Royal Television Society (RTS) recent annual awards ceremony, the largest UK event of its kind outside London. We have been a sponsor of The RTS North East & Borders Centre awards for many years and it is with great pleasure we can announce this years winner as Peter Groom of Dene Films. The award was presented to Peter by our CEO Chas Kennedy at the ceremony held at The Sage Gateshead on February 23rd.
Peter won the award for his work on the commercial, ‘Looking’, for South Tyneside Council and the TV film ‘The Conkerers’. The judges said “Peter’s sound design was considered an essential part of the impact of two productions which featured highly in the 2007 Awards.”
Although now established as a manufacturer and distributor of a diverse range of audio, video, data, power and comms products, Canford’s founders came from careers in radio with an obvious focus on audio, so it’s not surprising that Canford have been a long-time and proud sponsor of this audio craft award.
Peter began his career at almost exactly the same time Canford was founded over 30 years ago. It transpires that he was one of our first customers and remembers collecting ¼” splicing tape from us at our original site in Ryton. It has brought smiles to several faces and seemed even more appropriate that we should have been the company presenting him his award.
