Neumann large-diaphragm microphones are renowned their quality when used for professional and semi-professional recording and broadcast applications. This range of microphones have either fixed or variable polar patterns to suit microphone positioning and the pick-up pattern required.

TLM Series


TLM 102

Available in nickel or black finish, and in Studio Set variants that include EA 4/EA 4 BK shock mounting suspension. TLM 102 has been designed for broadcast, voice over, home and professional studio, and live environments, and is said (by Neumann) to be 'beautifully balanced sound for silky vocals, crisp guitars and powerful drums'. A cardioid pickup pattern and 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response, with a slight lift around 10kHz, along with a 'well-controlled' proximity effect enables the user to capture the character of the subject, whilst a self-noise level of 12dB-A is low in comparison to the ambient noise of a quiet room. The microphone is often used for male or female vocals, electric guitar, bass guitar, double bass, percussion, brass and saxophone, aided by a dynamic range of 132dB and maximum SPL of 144dB.

TLM 103

Available in nickel and black along with Studio Set versions, this pressure-gradient, large diaphragm, cardioid, condenser microphone has been designed for applications including broadcast, voiceover, home studio, live sound, concert hall, or recording studio. The capsule has been derived from the popular U 87 Ai and is 'acoustically well-balanced' and often preferred for vocal recording, broadcast announcing, or for instruments such as wind, strings, percussion and overhead drum positioning. A frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz is offered, with a flat frequency response up to 5 kHz and a wide, flat, presence boost of 4dB above that. A wire mesh protects the capsule as well as offers resistance to plosives and pop noises. A Neumann SG 2 swivel mount is included in standard versions, or EA 1/EA 1 MT with Studio Sets. Both mounts are designed for use with a compatible microphone stand. The microphone has a 3-pin XLR connector and requires +48V phantom power.

TLM 107

Available in nickel or black finish, and in Studio Set variants that include shock mounting suspension; TLM 107 has been designed for use in broadcast, voice over, home or professional studio, live event or concert hall environments. A dynamic range of 131dB allows the TLM 107 to capture 'anything from a slight whisper to massive drums without unwanted noise or distortion'. The microphone can be switched between five polar patterns including omnidirectional, wide angle cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-8. The navigation toggle on the back of the microphone allows control over settings including 0/-6/-12dB pad, linear/40Hz/100Hz low cut, and the afore mentioned polar patterns.

TLM 193

This black, large diaphragm, cardioid, condenser microphone is aimed at professional and semi-professional recording of vocals and instruments where close-positioning to high sound pressure levels is required, having a capability of handling sound pressure levels up to 140dB without distortion. It is supplied in a wooden box along with Neumann SG 2 swivel mount. A wire mesh grille protects the capsule as well as offers resistance to plosives and pop noises. The microphone has a 3-pin XLR connector and requires +48V phantom power.

U Series


U 87 Ai

This microphone is a Neumann classic best-seller and is available in either nickel or black finish, and in Studio Set versions that include the elastic suspension mount. The polar pattern is variable; omni directional, cardioid and figure-of-eight patterns can be set using a switch located below the mesh grille. There are also switches to apply 10dB attenuation and LF roll-off to frequencies below 1kHz. Applications include 'spot' placement for instruments such as wind, string, piano and percussion, 'overhead miking', and vocal recording. The U87 Ai is capable of handling sound pressure levels up to 127dB without distortion. The microphone has a 3-pin XLR connector and requires +48V phantom power. It is supplied in wooden box.

U 89 i

With similar shape to the U 87 Ai, but a little smaller, the U 89 I is available in nickel or black finish. Five polar patterns, omni directional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hyper-cardioid and figure-of-eight are available to suit most studio applications, such as instrument 'spot' pick-up and voice reproduction. This versatile microphone offers a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz with the option of a two-stage, LF roll-off filter to reduce frequencies below 80Hz or 160Hz. Use of the 6dB attenuator switch takes the maximum sound level, for 0.5% THD to 140dB - more than the peak sound pressure level immediately in front of a trumpet. The microphone has a 3-pin XLR connector and requires +48V phantom power.
