DPA MICROPHONES - Shotgun and Pencil

This range of pencil and shotgun microphones from DPA have been designed and manufactured for broadcast audio and location recording where distancing from subject, or recording from a distance is required.

4000 CORE Micro Series

4097 CORE Micro Shotgun

4097 CORE has a ‘highly directional’ pickup pattern with a linear response and large dynamic range of 110dB typical to offer a natural sound from quiet to loud vocal performances. Off-axis pickup, when the audio is captured from the side of the microphone capsule, retains the audio quality however it lowers the input level captured. This is especially useful when an engineer needs to use fewer microphones as pointing at the back row of the choir balances the sound with the side pickup from the front rows of singers.

Frequency response: 20Hz – 20kHz. Frequency range, +/- 2dB, 20cm: 80Hz – 15kHz, with 2dB soft boost at 10-12kHz. Sensitivity: 16mV/Pa, -36dB re 1V/Pa. Equivalent noise level: 23dB typical. S/N ratio: 71dB, A-weighted, 1kHz at 1Pa, 94dB SPL. Total harmonic distortion: less than 1%, up to 133dB peak. Dynamic range: 110dB, typical. Maximum SPL: 135dB, before clipping.

2000 Series

2006 Pencil Microphone - Omnidirectional

DPA 2006 is a twin diaphragm, omnidirectional capsule that allows a ‘distinctive, well-balanced sound’. The opposite facing capsules are placed into a double-diaphragm, single capsule design to lower the amount of inherent noise. The microphone has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz, (50Hz – 20kHz effective frequency range with a 3dB soft boos at 14kHz) and a dynamic range of 114dB.

Variants

2006A includes the MMP-A standard transformerless preamp with a push switch on the XLR connector to give 20dB attenuation. Maximum SPL: 146dB. Length: 164mm. Weight: 160g
2006C includes the MMP-C compact preamp. Maximum SPL: 139dB Length 58mm. Weight: 60g

2011 Pencil Microphone - Cardioid

DPA 2011 pre-polarised, cardioid, twin diaphragm, condenser microphone has been designed to handle high sound pressure levels and is therefore more suited to 'close-miking' situations. Two 'opposite-facing' capsules are built into a MMC2011 twin-diaphragm, single capsule to provide a higher signal to noise ratio, often linked to a larger diaphragm microphone. The microphones have a frequency range of 20Hz - 20kHz, (50Hz - 17kHz with a 3dB soft boost at 12kHz at 300mm) and a dynamic range of 117dB.

2012 Pencil Microphone - Cardioid

DPA 2012 cardioid microphone is an all-around pencil mic designed for most instruments on a live stage, including snare drum, hi-hats, electric guitar cabinets, conga, acoustic guitar, and horns.
Its ‘specifically powerful characteristics’ make it a flexible mic that pronounces important nuances of the instrument, particularly those in the high-frequency range. The cardioid capsule offers high gain-before-feedback, and has a maximum SPL, peak before clipping of 156dB.

2012 is constructed to withstand rough handling on a hectic live stage. It has a thicker, more robust body construction of brass that is very durable and known for its corrosion resistance and tolerance against metal fatigue. The surfaces of the mic handle and grille are treated with a protective black chrome finish, which ensures more graceful ageing.

Frequency response: 20Hz – 20kHz. Effective frequency range: 40Hz – 20kHz, at 30cm. Maximum SPL: 156dB. Length 94mm. Weight: 83g.

Stereo Kit
ST2012 Includes a stereo matched pair of 2012 microphones, with foams and clips, along with a protective case.

2015 Pencil Microphone - Wide Cardioid

DPA 2015 wide cardioid microphone has been designed for ambient pickup for live instruments including drum overheads, grand piano, horn groups, vibraphones, and xylophones.
Its wide cardioid pickup pattern allows for pickup when a cardioid microphone is too point-focussed. A stereo pair will work as overheads to capture a balanced sound of the entire group of instruments, like a drum kit. Also, when recording instrument groups with complex radiation patterns, the wide cardioid (also known as hemispheric, subcardioid or hypocardioid) design covers a greater sound angle and is an excellent choice.

2017 Shotgun Microphone - Supercardioid

DPA 2017 is a pre-polarised condenser microphone for directional shotgun audio gathering. The microphone has been designed to offer a natural sound from the primary source and complimentary natural sound captured off-axis. 2017 has been engineered with no moving parts for durability with resistance to moisture, temperature, and condensation. 2017 shows attenuation at 90-degrees (around -10dB) and maximal rejection around 125-degrees (more than -20dB). The microphone's polar pattern provides a more even pickup of 'on-scene' (0-degrees) )sound sources, and a larger rejection of out-of-scene noises, thereby achieving a better overall performance.

With a sound pressure level handling of 143dB SPL Peak, a low self-noise of 13 dB(A), and a 130dB dynamic range, DPA 2017 is useful in applications where shotguns are not traditionally known to perform well. A permanent 3rd order low-cut filter at 60Hz has been included to eliminate unwanted low frequency noise such as rumble and handling noise. The filter is intentionally placed low and steep to ensure the richness of the voice, ambience or other captured sound.

Included accessories: UA0691 microphone holder, UA0073 foam windscreen, S-DKH0011 zip pouch.

Frequency response: 20Hz - 20kHz; 70Hz - 18kHz, at 60cm. Sensitivity: 25mV/Pa; -32 dB re. 1V/Pa, +/-2dB at 1kHz. Equivalent noise level: 13dB(A), Typ; 15dB(A), max, re 20µPa. Distortion: 140dB SPL RMS, 143dB SPL peak. Dynamic range: 130dB, typical. Maximum SPL: 148dB SPL, peak. Rate output impedance: 60ohms. Power supply: +48V phantom power. Current consumption: 1.8 mA. 4017 Shotgun Microphone - Hypercardioid

The pre-polarised condenser 4017 shotgun microphones have a 'highly-directional' pickup pattern due to the combination of the supercardioid design and an interference tube to provide off-axis rejection. Because of this, the 4017 microphones are often used for broadcast ENG or film on booms, or fixed in sports arenas.

4017B has two on-board filters, activated by twisting two rings on the microphone body, to add a high frequency boost of 4dB at 8kHz to compensate for the loss incurred with windjammers. Frequencies below 120Hz can be reduced with a switched, first-order (6dB reduction per octave), filter to remove unwanted handling and wind noise. A third order (24dB reduction per octave) filter, set at 50Hz, is permanently in effect to eliminate the lowest handling noise. The 4017B weighs 68g and is 210mm in length. 4017C does not have these filters, is 154mm in length and weighs 70g.

Frequency response: 20Hz - 20kHz; 40Hz - 20kHz, at 30cm. Sensitivity: 19mV/Pa; -34.4 dB re. 1V/Pa, +/-2dB at 1kHz. Equivalent noise level: 13dB(A), Typ; 15dB(A), max, re 20µPa. Distortion: 134dB SPL RMS, 137dB SPL peak. Dynamic range: 124dB, typical. Maximum SPL: 146dB SPL, peak. Rate output impedance: 100ohms. Power supply: +48V phantom power. Current consumption: 2.8 mA. Dimensions (DxL): 19 x 154mm. Weight: 73g.

Variants
4017B Includes the MMP-B preamplifier with low/high cut filters.
4017C Includes the MMP-C compact preamplifier.
4017ER Includes the MMP-ER preamplifier.
4017ES Includes the MMP-ES preamplifier.

4018 Pencil Microphone - Supercardioid

With a supercardioid pickup-pattern, the pre-polarised 4018 condenser microphones have been designed for broadcast, ENG, film and long distance pick-up situations. Use with a boom is common practice and the microphones also prove popular for interview, spot and table use. They have a frequency response of 40Hz - 18kHz at 300mm +/-2dB and a dynamic range of 121dB, typically. A signal to noise ratio of 78dB(A) typical is the same across all 4018 microphones.
Variants
4018A Includes the MMP-A preamplifier with attenuation switch.
4018C Includes the MMP-C compact preamplifier.
4018ER Includes the MMP-ER preamplifier.

4090 - Omnidirectional, Normal SPL

DPA 4090 condenser microphone has a handling of 134dB SPL, allowing the user to combine with almost any acoustic instrument from acoustic guitar and strings to piano and wind instruments. The microphone has a ‘remarkably linear’ frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz which enables the sound engineer to alternatively use the mic for sound system alignment, testing and tuning.
A ‘rugged and compact design’ features a 5.4mm diameter pre-polarized condenser capsule in a tapered body measuring just 12cm in length.

4091 - Omnidirectional, Loud SPL

DPA 4091 condenser microphone is very similar to the 4090, however it has a handling of 144dB SPL, allowing the user to mic up instruments including percussion, electric guitar amplification, along with acoustic instruments such as wind or string. The microphone has a ‘remarkably linear’ frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz which enables the sound engineer to alternatively use the mic for sound system alignment, testing and tuning.
