The 635 and RE50 microphones are used widely in television, and radio. They are especially suited to ENG and electronic field production. Extremely rugged, they can withstand environmental hazards, yet provide excellent sound performance.
All have metal bodies, low output impedance, 3-pole XLR connector, and are supplied with microphone stand clamp.
635A - Dynamic, omni, fawn beige
An exceptionally rugged, durable microphone, the 635A is designed for ‘exacting professional applications such as film production, recording, broadcasting, and the more demanding PA applications’. The response has been specially shaped; a slow roll-off below 200Hz with a broad rise of several dB from 2000-12000 Hz results in bright yet natural vocal quality. The high output level, and low sensitivity to mechanical shock, makes the 635A suitable for interviews and for ‘pass-around’ use in audiences. The diaphragm permits very smooth response over a wide frequency range yet withstands humidity and temperature extremes, corrosive effects of salt air, and severe mechanical shocks. It is ‘practically indestructible with normal use’. A four-stage pop and dust filter ‘ensures a completely pop-free performance and virtually eliminates the need for an external windscreen during outdoor use’. An internal shock absorber reduces the pickup of cable and other noise generated by external contact.

635N/D-B - Dynamic, omni, black
A development of and similar in features and appearance to the 635A, this uses a neodymium N-DYM magnet structure for increased sensitivity and ‘acoustalloy’ diaphragm for smoother frequency response. The increased output level will be useful for applications where the gain available from the microphone input is limited.

RE50/B - Dynamic, omni, handheld interview, black
This was designed expressly for hand-held news-gathering work. It has the same tailored frequency response and high output level as the 635A. By use of a high-mass zinc internal acoustic chamber, shock mounted within the machined-aluminum outer casing, the RE50/B offers an extremely high degree of isolation. The internal transducer uses a mechanical nesting concept: Each part is nested inside another so that the transducer (head assembly) is nearly a solid structure. Handling noise, clothing noise, and even cord shock are isolated from the microphone element so that induced noise is reduced greatly. An integral windscreen and blast filter provides protection from wind noise, excessive sibilance and annoying popping. The grille bounces back to retain its shape. A four-stage pop filter prevents dust and magnetic particles from reaching the diaphragm. The finish is a semi-gloss black finish, good for on-camera use.

Built with the same rugged design as the RE50, this model features a neodymium magnet for increased sensitivity and improved shock mounting using advanced vibration isolation materials. The finish is semi-gloss ‘camera’ black.
