The Shure range of wireless in-ear monitoring systems extends from the entry-level PSM 200 series, through the PSM 300 and PSM 900 series, to the flagship PSM 1000 series for large scale events. They are offered set for several frequency ranges
Channel 38 (606 - 614 MHz) is the range for licensed radio microphones and in-ear monitors in the UK. A licence is required to operate this equipment in channel 38. The de-regulated and licence-free TV channel 70 (863-865MHz) is still available for radio microphone or IEM use. No licence is required - however there is no guarantee of protection from possible interference sources. Up to date information should be available at www.jfmg.co.uk.
Giving 'entry to professional in-ear personal monitoring from Shure', the PSM 200 is a 'frequency-agile', in-ear monitor system for use in a wide variety of applications. The transmitter incorporates a two-channel mixer and transmits in mono to a belt-pack receiver. Up to four systems may be used together, depending on the frequency band and local interference conditions.
The PSM 200 System includes SE112 earphones, 1x P2R receiver, 1x P2T transmixer, and accessories as described below.
P2T Transmixer
The P2T is both a transmitter and mixer. The user can connect two line-level or microphone level inputs directly into the transmitter and mix them independently. Microphones or instruments may be connected directly to the inputs or line outputs from a mixing console may be used. The transmitter has built-in audio limiting. The half-width case may be rack-mounted either singly, or with another transmitter, in a 19 inch rack, using the rack-mounting kit supplied.
The front panel has two combination XLR and 6.35mm 3-pole jack sockets for the two balanced inputs, which may be fed with microphone or line level signals. These connectors are provided with split-out XLR connectors on the rear, to pass the signal on to another transmitter or a mixing console. Phantom power supplied by the console will be passed through. Two rotary controls set the level of the two signals in the mono mix. Tri-colour LEDs are provided to indicate each audio signal is present, at nominal level or limiting. A single press-button sets the channel in conjunction with a numeric display. The antenna is permanently mounted.
The rear has the two split-out XLR connectors and a coaxial inlet for DC power from the included power supply.

74-5996 includes 2x P3RA receiver, 1x P3T transmitter, and 2x SE215 earphones.
This half-width rackmount transmitter is included in all PSM 300 systems and has dual, electronically balanced, 6.35mm 3-pole jack inputs and loop outputs of the same specification.
All connections are on the rear panel as well as a 'StereoMX/Mono' switch, which can be set to send either a two-channel stereo mix or summed audio mix to the P3R/P3RA receiver and a 'Line/Aux' switch switches the input sensitivity between -10dBv (Aux) and +4dBu (line) to suit the source device. There is a single BNC connector for use with removable antenna, and a power adapter input for the included PSU.
The front panel has an LCD display to show current status and settings menu, a 'Sync' button to allow synchronised setup via infrared, group and channel buttons, power on/off switch, and a rotary control to adjust the audio input level.
Nominal input level: +4dBu/-10dBv, switchable. RF output power: 10/20/30 mW, country dependant. Power source: 12-15V DC, 260 mA maximum. Dimensions: 198 x 172 x 43 (w x d x h) mm. Weight: 783g.

PSM 900 and PSM 1000 Series
Shure PSM 900 and PSM 1000 series are similar, both offering the facilities required in professional applications but with the PSM 1000 series offering an increased number of compatible frequencies, diversity reception and software control over a network.
All PSM 900 and PSM 1000 components are audio and frequency-sync compatible among each other (depending on tuning bandwidth). The transmitters are also compatible with the UHF-R series of radiomic receivers, so can be used for point-to point links. The two receivers use AA cells or optional SB900-A battery pack, and may be charged in the SBC200 or SBC800 charger, without removing the battery from the receiver.
Using the 'Scan and Sync' facility, a user can use a receiver to scan the RF environment and assign an identified group and channel to a system over a wireless IR link. This single receiver can be used to transfer the settings to multiple transmitters, one by one. A single receiver in 'CueMode' can be used to monitor up to twenty different mixes at the touch of a button, so an operator can hear what the performers hear. 'MixMode' offers the user the facility to adjust his own mix using controls on the belt pack.
RF mute switches on the transmitters enable or disable RF transmission, allowing setup operation without disrupting the RF environment - useful for festivals and multi-venue events.
RF filtering 'significantly reduces RF interference for a cleaner, stronger RF signal, fewer dropouts, and less audible artifacts'. The linearity of the transmitters 'vastly reduce frequency intermodulation', allowing up to 20 compatible channels for the P9T and 40 compatible channels for the P10T to operate simultaneously in one frequency band. Active RF gain control avoids RF signal overload which can cause dropouts if the receiver comes too close to the transmitting antenna.
Major differences between the two systems are outlined in the following table:
