Sony UWP-D wireless microphone systems use digital audio processors to provide high-quality audio, and because of this they have had a broad range of applications including ENG, EFP, handheld camcorders and DSLRs.
Unlike conventional analogue FM modulation wireless systems that convert the audio input to RF modulation via an analogue compander, the UWP-D series first converts the audio input to digital before processing through a digital compander, back to analogue, and then on to the RF modulation. This process is reversed on the receiving side to give a much improved transient response for added audio precision.
This range of wireless products operate on analogue FM modulation TV channels 33 to 41 (566,035 to 630,000 MHz).

The true diversity URX-P40 is the most popular of the UWP series receivers and is included in the UWP-D21, UWP-D22, and UWP-D26 systems. Designed for ENG/EFP production applications, this durable, metal-bodied receiver can be attached to a camera's cold shoe when using the optional SMAD-P4 adaptor, or to a compatible camera's MI shoe by using the optional SMAD-P5,
A large OLED display is clear in displaying the operating frequency, audio signal, RF signal, and battery status. An intuitive menu system can be selected and navigated using two buttons, ‘+’ and ‘-‘, and a 'set' button. The power switch is situated above the screen for easy access when camera mounted. A 3.5mm jack headphone output enables the user to monitor the audio signal when the camera doesn't have its own headphone output. A USB Type-C terminal allows the connection of an external USB power source for DC 5.0V powering. Alternatively the removable battery case accepts 2x AA alkaline batteries to give approximately six hours of use.

A two channel receiver with an internal three channel mixer allows the user to mix between the two wireless channels and the 3.5mm unbalanced microphone input. The receiver is true diversity when used in single channel mode, or dynamically switched diversity when operated in two channel mode. The optional SMAD-P3D MI shoe adaptor allows electronic connection between the receiver and compatible camera hardware.

UTX-B40 Bodypack Transmitter
UTX-B40 has been designed with a rugged metal body to withstand tougher operating environments such as those experienced in ENG or EFP applications. Including the ECM-V1BMP lavalier microphone, the UTX-B40 has a 3.5mm, locking jack connector giving compatibility with other microphones including the ECM322BMP headset microphone, ECM44BMP lavalier microphone, or ECM77BMP lavalier microphone. Like the URX-P40 receiver, an OLED display helps give an intuitive screen with menu functionality that provides options to make user setting changes. A USB type-C terminal can be used to connect to a compatible USB power source to provide 5V DC power.

UTX-P40 Plug-on Transmitter
An XLR plug-on transmitter designed for ENG or EFP applications where a handheld microphone is required. It can provide 48V phantom power to compatible microphones via the XLR connection. Features such as the OLED screen and navigation aid efficient visuals and setup indoors or outdoors. Compatible with SMAD-P4 shoe mount adaptor. Two alkaline AA battery cells power the handheld transmitter for approximately 8 hours with phantom power switched off, approximately 6 hours with phantom power switched on.

UTX-M40 Handheld Transmitter
UTX-M40 handheld wireless transmitter is compatible with URX-P03, URX-S03D, URX-P40 and URX-P03D receivers. A unidirectional, dynamic capsule has been fitted, however optional alternative microphone including the CU-C31, CU-F31, or CU-F32 can be interchanged for optimum performance and suitability. The internally fitted antenna helps improve ergonomics, whilst the OLED display aids quick visual feedback both indoors and outdoors. Two alkaline AA battery cells power the handheld transmitter for approximately 8 hours.
