TVM are currently providing coverage of the Gaelic Games Championship Season for Ireland’s national TV and radio broadcaster RTÉ, SKY Sports and TG4.
Other recently completed, high-profile projects have included Soccer Internationals, the Pro14 Rugby Final, Ireland’s Fittest Family and a special 25th anniversary performance from Riverdance. This was filmed in 4K, on location at the spectacular 18th century Slane Castle, County Meath. Incidentally, it was the first time the dancers had performed together since early March when COVID restrictions brought an abrupt halt to tours of the UK and North America.

Based in County Cork, Ireland, Television Mobiles fall under the remit of Canford’s International Business Development Manager, Vita Gorkina who is responsible for major projects, new product introduction and key account management.

We’d recently launched our 12G 4K microMUSA video patch panels which are ideal for OB applications, so it was time to book a meeting with Kevin.”
In response to the increasing demand for 4K infrastructure products Canford have developed microMUSA, an exclusive range of video patch panels which are intended for 12G 4K ultra high definition (2160P60), 3G and 1.5G high definition, standard definition and analogue video applications.
Designed to be lightweight and space saving, microMUSA is offered in three forms; 24-way Standard Density, 32-way High Density and 48-way Very High Density. Performance exceeds the requirements of SMPTE ST 2082-1 making them suitable for composite and component video, 270 Mb/s SDI, uncompressed 1080i or 1080p HD-SDI video and 4K UHD (2160P60) video up to 12GHz.
microMUSA connectors incorporate a unique positive location feature (“detent”) that indicates when the U-link or patchchord is fully mated into the panel, whilst additionally providing resistance to disconnection through vibration as found in some environments such as OB vehicles.
Kevin Galvin: “Earlier this year we had another visit from Vita Gorkina and one of the products she introduced was the microMUSA video jackfield. I knew being a Canford product that it would be reliable and Vita persuaded us to use it on our latest Outside Broadcast truck OB11. OB11 is designed for 6 CCU cameras plus 2 radio cameras. It has a relatively small footprint for quick deployment but can still house up to 10 operators. We are always trying to reduce rack space in order to increase the number of operators so when Vita demoed the microMUSA it was a perfect fit. The ability to have 64 jacks in 1RU has excellent space saving and still allowing the patching of 4K signals.”
TVM also hope to use microMUSA on their next truck build, OB10 which will see the light of day in Q1 2021.
