SENNHEISER MICROPHONES - Handheld

A range of Sennheiser interview and vocal microphones designed for handheld use.

MD series

MD 431-II - Dynamix, super-cardioid, live vocal/speech

Designed for vocals, speech, and broadcasting, Sennheiser MD 431-II offers 'exceptional' feedback rejection, and 'very good rejection of' handling noise. Hum compensating coil. The super-cardioid capsule is combined with a custom-tailored frequency response to allows high gain before feedback with an uncolored off-axis response. The microphone capsule is housed in a steel-mesh grille, with shock-suspension, with hum-bucking coil. A 'noiseless', magnetic reed on/off switch is recessed within the handle to avoid unwanted switching.

Applications: Live vocal, interview, speech. Frequency response: 40-18000Hz. Dimensions: 200 x 49 (length x maximum diameter) mm. Weight: 690g

MD 435 - Dynamic, cardioid, live vocal

Sennheiser describe the MD 435 capsule to have 'nuanced resolution and transparency'. It has a large diaphragm diameter and a frequency response of 40-20,000Hz. With a maximum SPL of 163dB and dynamic range of 146dB(A), MD 435 is designed for live vocals in high volume conditions. The capsule is spring-mounted and surrounded by a metal basket, which in turn forms part of the 'rugged' metal design.

Applications: Live vocal. Frequency response: 40-20000Hz. Dimensions: 181 x 47.5 (length x maximum diameter) mm. Weight: 350g

MD 445 - Dynamic, super-cardioid, live vocal

This microphone head has very similar attributes as the MD 435 however the pickup pattern is super-cardioid and is therefore more resistant to background noise and feedback. SPL is 163dB and dynamic range is 145dB(A).

Applications: Live vocal. Frequency response: 40-20000Hz. Dimensions: 174 x 47.5 (length x maximum diameter) mm. Weight: 329g

MD42 - Dynamic, omnidirectional, interview

Designed and constructed for use in demanding field applications, providing protection from wind and handling noise in live reporting and broadcasting environments, the MD 42 has a two-ply sound-inlet basket to provide increased protection from wind and pop noise. The capsule is shock mounted within the extra-long metal housing to ensure low sensitivity to handling noise and the omni-directional pick-up pattern ensures excellent speech intelligibility even when the microphone is not pointed directly towards the speaker. Supplied without cable or stand clamp. MD42 has a low output impedance and a 3-pole XLR connector.

Applications: Handheld interview. Frequency response: 40-18000Hz. Dimensions: 250 x 49 (length x maximum diameter) mm. Weight: 360g.

MD46 - Dynamic, cardioid, interview

Similar to the MD42, but with a directional pick-up pattern, the MD6 is more appropriate for locations with a high degree of background noise. Supplied without cable or stand clamp.

Applications: Handheld interview. Frequency response: 40-18000Hz. Dimensions: 250 x 49 (length x maximum diameter) mm. Weight: 360g.

Evolution 800 series

e835, e835S - Dynamic, cardioid, live vocal

With uniform frequency pick-up pattern to maintain signal quality when moving on and off axis during performance, these models have a gentle presence boost to ensure clarity and projection. Minimal proximity effect provides clear bass end performance regardless of distance from mouth to microphone. e835S has noiseless reed on/off switch.

Applications: Lead vocals. Frequency response: 40-16000Hz. Sensitivity: 2.7mV/Pa, 1kHz. Dimensions: 180 x 48mm (length x maximum diameter). Weight: 330g.

e845, e845S - Dynamic, super-cardioid, live vocal

These performance vocal microphones have 'extended high frequency response, full dynamic range and smooth warm tonal response. A presence gives vocal clarity and projection. They have 'consistent on/off axis and proximity response'. e845S has a noiseless reed on/off switch.

Applications: Stage vocals. Frequency response: 40-16000Hz. Sensitivity: 1.8mV/Pa, 1kHz. Dimensions: 185 x 46mm (length x maximum diameter). Weight: 330g.

e865, e865S - Condenser, super-cardioid, live vocal

These electret condenser microphones have a super-cardioid pick-up pattern and are designed to give vocals a 'natural, detailed sound', and be 'sensitive to the slightest nuances'. With a 'rugged' metal casing, the e865 has a high level of handling noise rejection, often required in live applications. The e865S has a silent on/off switch.

Applications: Lead vocals. Frequency response: 40-20000Hz. Sensitivity: 3mV/Pa, 1kHz. Dimensions: 193 x 47mm (length x maximum diameter). Weight: 311g.

Evolution 900 series

e935 - Dynamic, cardioid, live vocal

Sennheiser have designed this dynamic microphone for live vocal use. With a 'tough' metal case, 'low handling noise', and internally shock-mounted capsule, the e935 is a popular choice for vocalists of varying genres. The cardioid pick-up pattern ensures the microphone picks up less ambient noise on stage, which works well when using on-stage monitoring to reduce feedback.

Applications: Lead vocals. Frequency response: 40-18000Hz. Sensitivity: 2.8mV/Pa, 1kHz. Dimensions: 151 x 47mm (length x maximum diameter). Weight: 355g.

e945 - Dynamic, super-cardioid, live vocal

This super-cardioid, dynamic microphone has been designed for live vocals whereby a narrower pick-up pattern is advantageous - particularly when on stage monitoring is used. A shock-mounted capsule and a hum-compensating coil ensure the e945 eliminates a higher amount of unwanted interference and handling noise.

Applications: Lead vocals. Frequency response: 40-18000Hz. Sensitivity: 2mV/Pa, 1kHz. Dimensions: 186 x 47mm (length x maximum diameter). Weight: 365g.

e965 - Condenser, cardioid/super-cardioid, live vocal

e965 has been designed by Sennheiser to give the 'advantages of high-end studio' microphones within a live microphone in a 'rugged' metal casing. The externally polarised large-diaphragm condenser capsule has a pick-up pattern which may be switched between cardioid to super-cardioid to ensure the best response for the current application. An on/off low cut switch and sensitivity switch, which selects the sensitivity to either 0dB or -10dB, are both located below the capsule beneath the protective basket. +48V phantom power is required to correctly power this microphone.

Applications: Lead vocals. Frequency response: 40-20000Hz. Sensitivity: 7mV/Pa, 1kHz. Dimensions: 199 x 48mm (length x maximum diameter). Weight: 396g.
