A range of analogue or Dante network audio monitors that have been designed for use in outside broadcast trucks, studios, theatre and professional audio applications.

GS-MON004 - Analogue - 8 inputs, 4 loudspeakers

Glensound GS-MON004 is a 1u rackmountable audio monitor with eight balanced inputs and four loudspeakers. Each loudspeaker has a unique feed from two of the eight 3-pin XLR inputs, and has a supporting audio presence indicator and peak LED. There is also an illuminated channel mute switch for easy identification, and each channel has it's own rotary volume controller. A single balanced 6.35mm jack, also positioned on the front facing panel, provides output for 32-1000ohm headphones.

Class D amplification offers a maximum of 88dB SPL at 0.6m when running a single loudspeaker, or 98dB SPL at 0.6m when using all four loudspeakers. Inbuilt protection in the way of compressor/limiter prevents overloading the channel inputs, and therefore preventing damage to the loudspeakers. Each loudspeaker has it's own compressor/limiter.

Glensound BELLA 4 is the Dante enabled version of GS-MON004.

Input impedance: greater than 30k ohms, balanced. Maximum input before clipping: +27dB. Loudspeaker power: 4 watts RMS; 5 watts peak, per loudspeaker. Frequency response: 120Hz to 22kHmz, +/-9dB. Maximum output: 88dB SPL, 0.6m, single loudspeaker; 98dB SPL, 0.6m, four loudspeakers. Headphone impedance: 32-1000ohms. Input voltage: 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz. Power consumption: 25watts, maximum. Dimensions (W/HxD): 1RU x 221mm. Weight: 1.9kg.

BELLA 4 - 4 inputs, 4 loudspeakers

Bella 4 is a network audio monitoring sub rack designed for speech and confidence monitoring. It has four front panel loudspeakers, each driven from its own class D amplifier and each speaker/amplifier combination having its own Dante (AES67 compliant) network audio input. Utilising four front panel loudspeakers provides an effective sound stage for close field monitoring of four different audio sources and provides improved cognitive recognition for an operator of the four different audio circuits than if the four sources were monitored on a single loudspeaker driver.

Each loudspeaker of the Bella 4 has its own front panel volume control, illuminated mute switch, peak and presence indicators. The mute switches allow a quick and easy way of turning a source on/off whilst the presence indicators help an operator clarify which of the four audio sources are currently active. The peak LEDs indicate any overload of the input signal and provide a useful reference to potential issues with the incoming audio circuits. The loudspeakers are protected from damage from sudden high peak audio levels by way of compressor/limiter circuits - which are fitted to each loudspeaker. The compressor has been designed so as not to taint the monitoring audio at normal listening levels.

The front facing panel of the Bella 4 has four peak LEDs, one for each channel. These LEDs indicate an overly high audio input signal whilst actively monitoring a point in the audio chain prior to the front panel volume controls. Four rotary channel volume controls adjust the audio level of the associated channel to its associated loudspeaker/channel of the headphone amplifier. There is a single stereo 6.35mm jack socket for headphones, which when plugged in cut the four internal loudspeakers. The four incoming audio circuits are mixed to the headphones as two pairs of stereo, such that inputs 1 and 3 are routed to the left ear and the inputs 2 and 4 are routed to the right ear.

Four present LEDs are taken from a point in the audio chain prior to the front panel volume controls and the front panel channel mute switches, therefore they will illuminate if a signal is present on a channel - even if the volume control is turned down or its mute switch is in operation. The presence indicators are used to provide a visual indication of audio being present on a particular channel. The LEDs illuminate at a threshold of -20dB and have a hold time of a few seconds so stay illuminated for a short while after an audio source disappears. There are four channel mute push on/off switches for turning off the audio channel. If the internal LED in the switch is illuminated then the mute is active and no audio will be monitored on either the loud speaker or in the headphones from the associated input channel.

The rear facing panel of the Bella 4 has a single standard IEC mains input that accepts external AC voltages of 100-240 VAC +/- 10percent. There is an internal fuse and maximum current consumption is 25W. There is also one network audio input. The 100Mb EtherCON connector can mate with Neutrik XLR based network cables and standard RJ45s.

Internally, the Bella 4 uses the Ultimo Chipset from Audinate for its Dante network audio interface. The Ultimo chipset can receive four audio channels but importantly it can only receive two network flows, meaning that these four audio channels can only originate from two different network locations.

BELLA 22 MKII - 22 inputs

Bella 22 mkII is a 2-bus summing matrix confidence monitor, designed for outside broadcast trucks, studio, theatre and professional audio applications, enabling the monitoring of multiple network audio sources. Bella 22 mkII is available in two versions as Bella 22 mkII (Dante/AES67 network compatible), and Bella 22/R mkII (Ravenna/AES67 network compatible). Bella 22/R MKII has all the functionality of Bella 22 MKII however it uses Ravenna network protocols.

Ten front panel volume controls can control a single or two network audio inputs, and the output of each of these controls can be routed to the left or right mix busses. In addition to the twenty network audio inputs, two analogue inputs are also provides for added versatility. Ten channel on/solo switches are provided enabling sources to easily be turned on/off the loudspeaker monitoring mix, or soloed to this mix if required. In addition to the loudspeaker monitoring mix there is a second mix bus that provides a permanent mix output from the ten input circuits. Three line level analogue outputs are provided along with an AES3 output. These follow the switched/solo mix buss.

The front facing panel of the Bella 22 mkII has ten round yellow illuminated switches control various features including the input of the associated channel on/off, the loudspeaker, analogue, AES3 and mix/solo network audio outputs. Pressing and holding one of these switches will solo the corresponding channel output to the loudspeaker, analogue, AES3 and mix/solo network audio outputs. There are also ten input source controls, and each of the ten input channels has two network audio sources associated with it. These appear in Dante controller and the channel number followed by ‘L’ (left) or ’R‘ (right). The source input control is a 3 position toggle switch. Moving this switch left will route just the left audio input to the channels output routing switch; moving it right will route just the right audio input to the channels output routing switch and in its central position both left and right inputs will be sent to the channels output routing switch. There are also ten output routing controls by way of 3-position toggle switch. This will route the selected input(s) to the left/right or both (left and right) mixes. The selected input (left/ right channel) has a bearing on what is actually routed to the mix circuits. On the tenth channel there is an input select switch that gives the option of taking its left and right audio inputs either from the Dante /AES67 audio network OR from a pair of local analogue audio inputs on the rear of the Bella 22 mkII.

There is a dim switch on the right of the Front panel that when used this illuminated switch will dim both the front panel loudspeakers, the analogue and the AES3 outputs. It will also dim any of the network outputs circuits that are after the dim control. A rear panel GPI circuit also affects the state of this switch. If the rear GPI circuit is made then the switches internal LED will illuminate and pressing the switch will not turn the dim on or off. Next to the dim switch is the cut loudspeaker switch. When used this illuminated switch will cut both the front panel loudspeakers, the analogue and the AES outputs. It will also cut any of the network output circuits that are after the cut control. The rear panel GPI circuit also affects the state of this switch in the same way as the dim switch. There is a second rear panel GPI circuit that can be used to cut just the internal loudspeakers. If this second GPI circuit made then the internal loudspeakers will be cut, but internal LED will not be on and this switch will continue to operate a cut on the analogue, AES3 and network outputs.

The front panel of the Bella 22 mkII has ten input level controls, these controls adjust the incoming audio level by applying gain/loss to it. Audio present indicators will illuminate to show a valid audio is being detected on the channel prior to the level control. It will illuminate when an incoming audio circuit is at -20dBu or above. Once illuminated it will stay illuminated for three seconds after it detects the input level to fall below -20dBu. If the LED flashes this indicates that the input level is either clipping or within 1dB of clipping.

There is one master output level control that can adjust the overall output level of the unit. It adjusts the level to the internal loudspeakers, headphones, analogue outputs, AES3 output and the network audio outputs that are affected by it. In its 12 o’clock position it is a unity gain. Fully clockwise 10.6dB of gain will be applied to the output. Fully anti-clockwise 30dB of loss will be applied to the output. There is a 6.35mm TRS headphone jack socket that provides a stereo output for monitoring the mix/solo buss. Inserting a jack into this socket will cut the internal loudspeaker, the analogue and ASE3 audio outputs and any network audio outputs affected by the cut circuit. It is suitable of use with headphone with impedance of 100- 2000 Ohms.

The Bella 22 mkII left panel loudspeaker is fed audio from the left output of the mix/solo mix buss. The front panel overall level control adjust its volume and the front panel Cut and Dim switches also affect it. There is a rear panel GPI that can turn the internal loudspeakers off. Inserting a headphone jack in the head phone socket also turns the loudspeaker off. The right panel loudspeaker is fed audio from the right output of the mix/ solo mix buss. The front panel overall level control adjusts its volume and the front panel Cut and Dim switch also affect it. There is a rear panel GPI that can turn the internal loudspeakers off. Inserting a headphone jack in the head phone socket also turns the loudspeaker off.

On the rear panel of the Bella 22 mkII, from left to right, there is a standard IEC mains plug that accepts external AC voltages of 100-240 VAC+/- 10%. There is an internal fuse and maximum current consumption is 10W. There are two copper RJ45 Ethernet ports that can accept standard network cables. Only one port is required to be connected to your network to correctly pass Dante/AES67 network audio, however both the primary and secondary ports can be used if a redundant network topology is in use. Both ports are gigabit Ethernet and the LEDs flash to indicate data is being correctly communicated with a switch. There is an update socket that is used only be a Glensound authorised engineer in the unlikely event that the new internal microprocessor code is required to be installed in the Bella 22 mkII. The internal microprocessor is a PIC. There is one 9 pin D plug that provides access to the GPIO (general purpose inputs and outputs) circuits. These are useful for connection to external devices such as red light systems.

The AES3 output is an output of the mix/solo buss’ left and right channels. This circuit’s sample rate is 48kHz and it is driven as a direct output from the internal DSP. There is 3 analogue output XLRs, marked as ‘mix out, ‘R’ (right), ‘L’ (left) and ‘Mono’. These are line level electronically balanced analogue audio circuits with a nominal line up level of 0dBu. Being electronically balanced they can be wired unbalanced if required. The audio being routed to these circuits in the output of the mix/Solo mix buss and they are affected by the Cut and Dim LS circuits and the overall level control.

There are two local audio input XLRs that are both balanced analogue with line-up of 0dBu. They are electronically balanced and their inputs can be wired unbalanced. Their audio input is fed into the mix busses via the input channels ten ‘Dante/local’ toggle switch. The switch needs to be in the ‘local’ position for the outputs of these audio input to be fed into the mix buss.

BELLA 32 - 32 inputs

Bella 32 is a 2-bus summing matrix confidence monitor designed for outside broadcast trucks, studios, theatre and professional audio applications. It has been designed for easy and cost-effective monitoring of multiple network audio sources in production environments and for monitoring multiple network intercom and programme feeds.

Bella 32 is available with Dante network protocol, or Ravenna protocol as Bella 32/R.

The two front panel loudspeakers are driven from a DSP to compensate for their size, resulting with ‘clear, crisp vocals and highly intelligible reproduction of wider band audio sources’. A class D amplifier drives the speakers with sufficient output level for most environments.

Bella 32 has a total of 32 network audio inputs, with each input having its own illuminated front panel selection switch and presence indicator. In addition to the 32 network audio inputs there are two mono line level balanced inputs available on rear panel 3-pin Neutrik XLRs. These two inputs have their own front panel selection switches and presence indicators. Each input has its own channel on/off switch that also acts as a solo selector. These switches are bright yellow illuminated push switches and operate in two ways: 1) a short press turns the channel on/off or a long-hold solos that channels inputs; 2) the switches are also used for panning and input gains of the channels. Each input can be panned between the left and right loudspeaker outputs. Whilst being panned the bottom of the two front panel PPMs indicates the current panned position making very easy for an operator to setup.

Each of the 34 input channels can have its input gain adjusted to suit, and whilst the gain is being adjusted the bottom of the two front panel PPMs indicates the current gain position making very easy for an operator to setup. In order to allow the operator to quickly identify which of the 34 audio inputs are currently active, green presence LEDs are provided next to each channels select switch. The channel’s LED will only illuminate if the incoming audio level is above -28dBFs and to prevent lots of annoying flashes as programme levels change the presence LED stays on for 3 seconds after the input drops below the on threshold.

A front panel shaft encoder acts as the overall volume/ level control. This adjusts the overall output level to the loudspeakers, headphone and main mix outputs. The bottom of the two PPMs indicates its current gain state as it is turned to enable an operator to immediately and intuitively see their current volume setting. Front panel illuminated switches are provided to Cut and Dim the outputs. External GPI loop inputs are also provided to allow the outputs to be cut or dimmed from external switches.

A front panel 6.35mm stereo headphone jack socket is provided to allow the operator to monitor the Bella’s output on headphones. Plugging in a pair of headphones automatically cuts the loudspeaker and analogue mix outputs.

Three balanced line level XLR analogue outputs are provided on the rear panel. There is a left and right output of the main mix/solo and a mono output (which is a sum of the left and right outputs). These outputs are all post front panel level control and Dim and Cut circuits. A balanced AES3 output is also provided. This is the left and right output mix/solo. There are three sets (left/right/mono) of mix outputs sent to the Dante/AES67 network. These are post front panel select/solo switches and also post-input gain and panning circuits. They are also post output volume control. One set of outputs is post dim and cut, another is pre dim and cut whilst the third is post dim but pre-cut. In addition to the above there are 3 sets of post front panel select switch outputs (but pre-gain/pan/dim/cut).

The three outputs are:
1) Mix out of Dante/Ravenna inputs 1 - 12
2) Mix out of Dante/Ravenna inputs 13 - 24
3) Mix out of Dante/Ravenna inputs 25 - 32 + Analogue inputs 1 and 2
Note: Dante or Ravenna depending on model.

As well as the above Dante/AES67 network mix outputs there are a further 12 fixed-ratio, permanently-on mix outputs being sent to the network. These can be especially useful to help build large network audio systems.

Network protocol: Dante, Bella 32; Ravenna, Bella 32/R. AES67: Compliant. DDM: Certified. Channel input gain: +21 to -21dB. Loudspeaker/headphone gain: +10.6dB to off. Analogue input impedance: Greater than 20kOhms. Input frequency response: 22Hz to 22kHz, greater than or equal to 0.5dB. Headphone impedance: 100-1000Ohms. Maximum headphone level: +17dBu, into 600ohms. Weight: 1800g
