SONIFEX REDBOX SOURCE SELECTORS

Housed in red-anodised aluminium rack-mounting cases these Sonifex source selectors produce a single output from up to ten audio sources. Available as analogue, RB-SS10, or digital, RB-DSS10, these units are particularly useful for monitoring one of many audio devices, such as CD player, tuner, or line source without the need for mixing console.

RB-SS10 – Analogue Source Selector/Mixer

Sonifex RB-SS10 is a 1U rack-mounting unit that produces a stereo analogue audio output from ten selectable stereo analogue sources. There are ten illuminated push buttons on the front panel, which select and indicate the current channel selection. The selection and indication is also available through a remote connector on the rear panel. As well as being able to act as a source select module, the RB-SS10 can act as a mixer, by enabling the mix mode (using the “remote” input). The front-panel headphone output has its own volume control, which is independent of the level adjustment for the main outputs, and has a maximum output level of +12dBu. The volume control can be made to alter the output level of the main XLR outputs also, by using a switch on the rear panel to enable/disable this feature.

To stop accidental selection using the switches on the front, there is an input on the rear to inhibit the front panel buttons. The gain for left and right inputs can be individually adjusted by using the preset potentiometers on the front panel. A LED on the front panel indicates that power is present. As well as routing the selected audio signal, the unit will also route a remote-control signal, input through the “remote” connector, to the selected input source, for starting external audio equipment such as a CD player. A designation-strip on the front panel is useful for giving the buttons a meaningful description. The strip covers the input gain controls so that once configured, they can’t be altered easily.

Inputs: Four XLR 3-pin female, balanced (can be unbalanced); two 25-way D-sub female, with three stereo channels, balanced, on each. Outputs: Two XLR 3-pin male, balanced (can be unbalanced). Remote start input/output: 25-way D-sub male. Remote select and switch inputs: 25-way D-sub female. Status outputs: 25-way D-sub female.

Input impedance: 20kohms. Output impedance: <50ohms. Maximum input level: +28dBu. Maximum output level: +28dBu. Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz +/-0.1dB, 600ohms load, ref 1kHz. Input gain: 8dB loss to 20dB gain, separately adjustable. Common mode rejection: >66dB typically. Noise: -96dB, unity gain, ref +8dBu. Headphone output: +12dBu maximum. Power source: 110V-120V, or 220-240V, switchable, 6W, filtered IEC inlet. Dimensions (WxDxH): 480 x 108 x 42mm, (1U). Weight: 1.6kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, IEC supply cable with plug.
Optional accessories: RB-RK3 1U rear panel rack kit

RB-DSS10 - Digital Source Selector

Like the RB-SS10, the RB-DSS10 is a 1U rack-mounting device which produces an output from one of ten sources, however the input and outputs are in AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital audio format. There are ten illuminated push buttons on the front panel, which select and indicate the current channel selection; the headphone output has its own volume control, which is independent of the level adjustment for the main outputs. A designation strip, on the front panel, is useful for giving the buttons a meaningful description.

The selection and indication is also available through a connector on the rear panel for remote control and “tally” indicators. To stop accidental selection using the switches on the front panel there is an input on the rear to inhibit the front panel buttons. As well as routing the selected audio signal, the unit will also route a remote control signal, input through the “remote” connector, to the selected input source, for starting external audio equipment, such as a CD player.

The digital receivers in this unit are fully 24-bit, 96kHz capable. When an input is selected from the front panel, or remotely, the unit will attempt to capture the incoming signal on either the AES/EBU or the S/PDIF signal inputs, with priority given to the AES/EBU input. If the AES/EBU signal becomes locked while the S/PDIF signal is routed, the unit will automatically switch to the incoming AES/EBU signal. Once the receiver has successfully locked to a digital input, the LED illuminates, the tally is made, and the audio is routed simultaneously to both the digital audio outputs and converted to analogue audio for monitoring on the headphone socket on the front panel. If the incoming audio signal is not present, the LED in the push-button and the remote tally flash to indicate that the incoming digital signal is missing. A LED on the front panel is used to indicate that power is present on the unit. However, it also has a secondary role to indicate whether the selected channel is routing the AES/EBU (red LED) or S/PDIF input (amber LED).

Inputs: Eight AES/EBU, XLR 3-pin female; two AES/EBU and ten S/PDIF, through the 25-way D-sub connector. Outputs: One AES/EBU, XLR 3-pin male; one S/PDIF (part of the 25-way D-sub). Remote start input/output: 25-way D-sub male. Remote select and switch inputs: 25- way D-sub female. Status outputs:25-way D-sub female.

Input impedance: 110ohms +/-20% balanced (AES/EBU), 75ohms +/-5% unbalanced (S/PDIF). Bit depth: Up to and including 24 bits, following input signal. Headphone output: +12dBu maximum.
Output impedance: 110ohms +/-20% balanced (AES/EBU), 75ohms +/-5% unbalanced (S/PDIF). Signal level: 3V/10V peak to peak min/max (AES/EBU), 0.5V +/-20% peak to peak (S/PDIF). Sampling frequency range: 30-100kHz (including 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 64kHz, 88.2kHz and 96kHz), following input signal. Power source: 85-264V AC, 47-63Hz, 10W, filtered IEC inlet. Dimensions (WxDxH): 480 x 108 x 42mm, (1U). Weight: 1.6kg.

Included accessories: Handbook, IEC supply cable with UK plug.
Optional accessories: RB-RK3 1U rear panel rack kit.
