Tascam DR-10 series are compact, lightweight, audio recorders intended for electronic news gathering (ENG) and electronic field production (EFP) applications. The DR-10X plugs directly to a microphone; the DR-10CH and DR-10CS are 'body-pack' types designed to be used in-line between a wired microphone and Shure or Sennheiser radiomic transmitters and the DR-10L is designed to work with the included lavalier microphone.
Tascam DR-10X connects directly to any professional dynamic or self-powered electret condenser microphones, such as the Beyerdynamic MCE58, via a locking 3-pin XLR. The system records mono WAV (BWF) audio files to a microSD/microSDHC memory card (up to 32GB capacity) at 48 kHz/24-bit resolution.
The DR-10X provides adjustable recording-level with automatic gain control, low-cut filter and switchable limiter to prevent clipping. A dual recording function simultaneously creates a duplicate back-up track at a lower level, to provide replacement undistorted audio during post-production, if the main audio track has been overloaded.
A 3.5mm headphone socket is available, making it possible to check recordings in the field. Connection to a PC or MAC is via micro USB (type B) for file transfer. Powering is via single AAA battery or USB BUS power.
DR-10L PRO - 32-bit float recording
Weighing 65grams and having a small form factor of 53 x 51 x 21mm, Tascam DR-10L Pro has been designed for videographers and audio technicians to provide an unobtrusive and 'easy-to-use' tool for audio collection. Microphone input is via 3.5mm TRS jack with screw lock. A stereo headphone output is provided by way of 3.5mm jack connector.
DR-10L Pro has 32-bit float recording technology and therefore allows for a more lenient gain setup whilst retaining more audio information for post production editing. Two analogue-to-digital converters capture sound over an larger dynamic range and incur less distortion or excessive noise. The included Tascam TM-10L lavalier microphone captures 'clear, detailed' audio while handling high sound pressure levels. Using two lithium AAA batterie cells, the digital recorder can operate for up to 24.5 hours, with automatic file saving every twenty seconds to minimise risk of data loss. DR-10L Pro is compatible with PCM and MP3 recording and also has a USB-C connector for connection and data transfer to a computer.
Operation time:
Alkaline: 16hrs 30sec, no Bluetooth; 16hrs, with Bluetooth connection.
NiMH: 11hrs 30sec, no Bluetooth; 10hrs 30sec, with Bluetooth connection
Lithium: 24hrs 30sec, no Bluetooth; 23hrs, with Bluetooth connection
With the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth dongle, DR-10L Pro can wirelessly transmit and synchronise timecode with compatible Atomos products, allowing the videographer to align the audio with video data. When the Bluetooth dongle is installed, the user can operate wirelessly from an iOS, iPadOS or Android device using the DR-10L Pro CONNECT app. The app also allows the control of up to five DR-10L Pro units to enable the user to place microphones in multiple locations such as bride, groom, and best man.
